All the intangibles point towards an upset: Road game, Thursday night, Dan Snyder, AU's struggles on the road in non-con games, AU failing to beat any decent team last year decisively, etc.

But at the end of the day it comes down to something so much more simple: Auburn is a much better and more talented football team than KSU. Take Auburn -13.

FWIW I don't know if I'd take the points, but Auburn will win. The underselling of AU this season is both baffling and welcome, IMO.

But does anybody have any clue what to expect from KSU this year? I've not read the first word about them.

Not specifically. But, Snyder is a heck of a coach, and as long as he's still there his teams will be dangerous. He's very, very good at taking marginal talent and getting maximum performance from them. This game is being played on a Thursday in Manhattan, ks - a complete armpit FWIW. Snyder's teams will run well, but likely not be much of a threat in the air.

Anything is possible, but Auburn's talent should allow them to win comfortably. Unless they get too cocky or take it for granted, in which case a Snyder team can bite them in the arse. I'd probably take the Tigers. If this were legal, of course.

Also, if any Auburn fans think about making the trip, here are some recommendations.

1. Fly into Kansas City. Stay in Kansas City. Do not stay in Manhattan, it's far, far worse than the worst SEC town. It's an armpit, with the fragrance of livestock everywhere. Just drive over for the game and get back to Kansas City.

2. If you drive instead of fly, still...do not stay in Manhattan. If you want to make a stop in low-rents to start a fire or something, that's recommended and encouraged.

3. Stay the whole weekend. Eat BBQ in Kansas City, it's fantastic. Hit the night life. And head 2 hours east on Saturday to check out Columbia and watch Mizzou beat up Indiana. If you drive, you'll go through Columbia anyway.

For those thinking Auburn is a national title contender, consider this: The Tigers haven’t won a road non-con game against a BCS/Power 5 team since 1997, when Terry Bowden’s Auburn team went into Charlottesville and beat Virginia 28-17. Auburn hasn’t won a non-con game against a team west of the Mississippi since a victory over TCU in 1980.

I love it when some reporters and bookies use trends from previous teams and coaching staffs to justify their picks. First of all, AU (and most SEC Teams) does not play OC away games very much.

AU also has 12 days to prepare for KSU after playing San Jose State on Sept 6th.

Me and the family are heading up there for the game. I know about Kansas City but anyone been to Branson before? If so, would it be worth the weekend trip since the game was moved to Thursday (can't stand that, but oh well).

I'm assuming he meant a regular season game, but you should pose question to Sporting News.

We actually have beaten two teams west of the Miss since 1980...actually since 2007 but neither were on the road.

Branson is vey nice, it's very pretty and there's plenty to do around there. Music, attractions, golf, etc. there are lots I Mizzou and Arky fans from around there who could make recommendations about Branson. Will you have kids along?

Yes, 3 boys (7,10,11). Just thought of Branson because they are all pretty adventurous and wide open and we will be staying in the KS and MO area for about 6 days. Most people have said to stay away from Manhattan, though, just like you. So sounds like good advice.

Grew up in KC and we used to make trips to Lake of the Ozarks. That was before Branson was big though. Seems like it's pretty similar to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

So his west of the Mississippi losses really only amount to losing to USC 17-24 in 2002 and Nebraska in 1981 since those are the ONLY time I remember going west and losing? Also, I guess beating Texas at Texas in 1991 does not count (14-10)because it does not fit the agenda... Article Discussing our 1991 Victory
