When joining the SEC? 2007? The arrival of Botch?

Combo of Jonathan P Football becoming QB1 and VOLS hiring Derek Dooley

When TV exposure increased overall thanks to the OU lawsuit so teams like Tenn couldn't hog the limited spotlight.

TAMU has always been the better job. Look at the histories of the two programs.

Wrong. UT was still a good program up to 07.

Not really. 99-07 were very underwhelming and VOLS underachieved almost every year.

But they were still a football team. Somewhere, UT converted to a UK level team.

Better than Tennessee? Probably when it joined the SEC.

They hired a coach that had gone 4-8 at La Tech the previous year

Nice edit, then additional post.

Because as bad as College Station is, the Head Coach still doesn't have to live in Knoxville

Idk if it is the better job. But if you were to argue it is, I think its a combination of a lot of things. They joined the SEC, had an exciting celebrity heisman winner, Texas has sucked for a while now, and They just built one of the biggest venues in Colege football with great facilities. All these reasons in a relatively short amount of time has built up the program.

outside of money and current facilities, I'm not sure that it really is
hell no job in the west is a good one as long as Saban is coaching

Butch has lost the western part of the state for recruiting. They barely had a foot hold before he arrived. They lost their Atlanta connections. Their recruiting area rivals Ole Miss. Facilities are below SEC standards. It has been more than a decade since UT played a meaningful game. TAMU is a head of them, and I don't think it is close.

Anybody ever been to Neylandville, Texas, between Greenville and Commerce?
Turns out that's where Gen. Neyland's family's slaves settled after being freed. It's just a liquor store now.
* Relevant because Neyland was an aggy for a spell before becoming Mr. Tennessee.

I just don't really see what TAMU has done either, besides when Manziel was there. They are not good either and their HC is currently on the hotseat.
UT currently has the #6 class in the country...
and you are not taking into account the pop Nashville has had in HS football

Tennessee has never had control of Memphis, nothing's changed in that regard. Just a lot less impactful with the boom the midstate has seen.

Any coach at Tennessee will be able to pick off a couple players out of Georgia every cycle, Butch has done it numerous times, as Dooley did before him.
