I'd feel a lot better about AU if it was someone other than Jay Jacobs making the hire.
He didn't hire the last one. The Chiz hire has Pat Dye written all over it.

AU
Talented roster just needs better coaching. Already has a talented recruiting class and a much better location for recruiting than the other two.
Petrino with BVG staying at DC and Trooper recruiting would be lethal.

I'm pretty sure Van Gorder and Petrino didn't part on good terms from the Falcons and Trooper would never get a job on Petrino's staff.

petrino put his best players on offense because we did not have enough players to go around. If we had Alabama's recruiting edge joe adams and jay wright would have both been starting corners. Joe adams actually comitted to USC to play corner back before he flipped.
Look at our last 2 recruiting classes. Tevin Mitchell is legit, AJ Turner / Ortha Peters are both legit. AJ Turner could very well be our best linebacker as a true freshman.
He won't put out alabama's defense but i don't think the job he did here is fair to access waht he would do on defense elsewhere. if he had enough to go around he'd have no problem putting players on that side of hte ball
petrino actually requires his assistants to be able to coach, trooper wouldn't get 1 look from petrino. Paul Petrino is the WR's coach for bobby petrino anyway.
I think we would get the best hire of the three for 2 reasons
1. we've had the longest to look
2. I think jeff long is a better AD then the other 2 combined.

Total Defense
2011 47th
2010 36th
2009 89th
2008 72nd
2007 46th
He had decent defenses, but they were never a priority. He is offensive minded and his teams were offensive minded. At Arky and at Louisville. His philosophy never changed.

also to say he "put his best players on offense" is just a ball faced lie
Eric Bennett our starting Free Saftey was a athlete in high school and could have very easily played WR here.. and would be a damn good one.
Jarret Lake, our starting LB was the same and could have been a WR here.
our backup cornerback Sleepy McKinny wasn't even an athlete in high school he was a true WR and whtin a week of fall camp last year coach thought he had the foot work/hips to be a really good corner back and put him there. and he's right he's going to be a 3 year starter when it's all said and done.
he puts players where he thinks they will excel at.

Tenn and Auburn set the bar really high with their last hires. I don't think either can do better this time around. You'd be fool to cut either of those guys loose.

who do you think will land the best out of the three?
Tuberville to Arkansas.
Todd Monken to Auburn.
Kirby Smart to Tennessee.
How will each do? Who knows? But bookmark this. I'm college football nostradamus.
