I'm going with what you say. Hopefully, BG13 was right about Jimbo Fisher being interested in the job.

Jimbo could beg for the job, and Jacobs would go out and hire Malzahn.

Tennessee. I hope Auburn or Arky hires Gus Malzahn, I would love still having a Chizik staff member fraud to remain a punching bag in the SEC.

I don't see Jacobs hanging around much longer.

Was the Chizik hire the result of Jacobs wanting to be anti-Bama in the approach? In other words, Bama hired a big name with no ties, so we hire a relative unknown with an AU background? Seems like AU could get a big name if they wanted, just not sure where Jacobs' head is at.

Supposedly one of the great things about us going interim was that we then had a 8 month head start on finding a great coach. Now, I'm not saying I agree with than nor am I saying ti will happen.

No, Jacobs has had a man crush on Chizik since he was the DC under Tubs. Said in an interview when asked when he knew he wanted to hire Chizik as the coach, and his was response was "as soon as he left for Texas".

Auburn would do best hiring Paul Rhoades.

I don't think Chizik is fired. I would be 100% shocked if Auburn pulls the trigger on him.

I think he gets next year to get 9 wins or better.

If Bama wins the NC, maybe they do panic and fire him, though.

Would be a huge mistake.

AU: little brother, shitty AD, in the west
UT: flagship, good AD, in the east

UT has a big advantage

Yeah, but AU has a much better advantage when it comes to recruiting, primarily because of location. For UT to be a competitor, it has to go out of state, to the Carolinas and Georgia to fill a talent-loaded roster. SC and Clemson have made plucking from the Carolinas harder and AU has been much more successful pulling from Georgia. I think it is a wash between AU and UT... and AU would have an advantage if it had a stronger AD.

Not flaming, but AU is the best job out of the three IMO, though all three are very close and an argument could certainly be made for the other two.

I've said it before and the Aubies got their panties in a wad, but I seriously think Auburn has sold itself short by hiring beneath what that program should be able to attract. Granted, Bama has done it in the past, also, with horrible results. But I don't understand why Auburn has never really gone out and made the rockstar hire. They have the money, the facilities and the location to pull a powerhouse coach... yet, they've hired Barfield, Terry Bowden and Chizik. Even Dye and Tuberville weren't big names when they hired them.

I don;t think there are many "big names" that are going to be interested in AU, now or any other year.

Timing and situation has to be perfect for any program to get a "big name" guy, even more so if your not a powerhouse program.

How many of these guys would even take a phone call much less take the job?

The best AU or just about any program can hope for is a guy like Strong, Petrino, etc.
