He didn't have a choice. US Supreme Court mandated it, and the President of the United States gave orders. Had it not been for the riots at Ole Miss, it likely would have looked much different, though.

You can cherry pick parts of sentences if you want. The fact is, George Wallace standing at the front of that school house was nothing but a show. He was under direct orders of the President of the United States to prevent another riot from happening.
