I think Alabama is possibly the most hated team in the country - most of the time.
That's what would be so ironic about Alabama vs. Florida State, if that happens.
I'm calling it "The Hate Bowl" because everyone (outside of Alabama fans) hates Alabama (a lot of it is envy) and obviously everyone hates FSU.
But this one and probably only time on a national scale, people will pull for Alabama over FSU because they hate Winston and Dumbo even more.
So America's team. No. Usually most hated team. Yes.

Religion is on the decline. Mormons and Catholics are struggling to find priests and now you're seeing younger and younger ones.
Mormons don't have priests. They use members from the congregation, so no, they're not struggling.

America's team is whoever is up next to try to knock off Bama.

Notre Dame has been "America's Team" largely due to their huge Catholic following. People who otherwise wouldn't follow college football are "Notre Dame fans" because they're a catholic school.
Don't forget the Irish aspect as well. I know of one person that doesn't much care about college football but roots for ND, due to being Irish. Sure he's not alone.

Nothing more needed to be said. You're lack of understanding is enough.

OH MY GOSH PAWLLLLLLL ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!? ALABAMA IS ABOVE ALL ELSE THEY RULE THE WORLD

You are right about one thing: Bama is quite the bandwagon.

There is no America's Team anymore, and that goes for CFB and NFL.
This is the truest statement on here. Regional rivalries preclude anything from developing into this, plus "safe" sports, like Baseball, have been so scandal-plagued in recent years that most people like all big-time sports askew.
The US team in the World Cup is probably the closest, but until we field a team that can really get close to winning it I doubt soccer will ever be THAT big.
I will say this, though:
While not always true, I've always felt that college teams were the ones you grew up cheering for; pro teams are the ones you cheer for based on where you currently are (though, of course, exceptions exist). You move to Green Bay, you'll become a Packers fan. I doubt you'll stop being a (we'll say Georgia) fan in place of becoming a Wisconsin fan though.

I am not saying this to be a dick, but I have not seen many Bama founds outside of the SE in my life. I've lived in Houston, Columbus, NYC and now Miami and they have not had a large following in any of those places.
you must not get out very much. You can't get in The Ainsley in NYC on game day and there are also at least 2 other places Bama fans gather and all of the places you mentioned have Bama gathering places.
I have seen Alabama shirts all over Europe, in Morocco, Israel (there is a Bama store in Jersusalem) and in Egypt. Since we don't lose our championship games those are loser shirts sent out to the 3rd world. Can't remember EVER seeing Suckeye gear.

They'll play the role of hated team. But not close to America's team.
Nobody minds associating with a very well-respected academic institution, etc. Also, as has been mentioned, there is the Catholic angle.
Nobody outside the state and some parts of SE wants to be associated with Bama. Yes, you can claim winning team etc. But too much association with derp derp slack jaw as well. So not a good sub for ND.

You used to could find Irish fans all over the country and they were basically the face of college footbal even through the 90's with films like Rudie being huge successes. Now that Notre Dame is really in the lower depths of relevancy, I think Bama is taking their spot.
All the pieces are there. We have a couple movies under out belt(Forest Gump and Nick Saban in Blind Side) Also we are mentioned in a Steely Dan song and Big Krit. Couple that with all the winning as of late and our classic and recognizable brand, we are truly becoming the face of CFB. Thoughts?
DO you know why Bama is NOT America's team? A guy who calls himself "Larry the Golfer" (who says things like "You used to could" and can't remember that Nick Saban in the Blind Side was the LSU coach) thinks that it is.
Have you even been outside of the State of Alabama? I know in your little Gump bubble you think everyone eats, sleeps, dreams Bama football but sorry to burst your bubble - they don't.

Obviously those are not all huge CFB places, but I know of multiple ND bars in all those locations
I have lived in St. Louis, Atlanta, and New York . . . I don't know what rock you lived under but I saw them everywhere.
Edit: Had to add on seeing fans in London.

In these playoffs, I think Oregon will be America's team. They certainly will be against Florida State. If they play Bama in Arlington, I'm sure most of the fans outside of the SEC will pull for Oregon.

frick it, sounds official enough to me. Add #16 to the mantle and ALL bama fans are now required to say: "Roll Tide! America's team baby!"
Do it, start now!

Hey man, you forgot Crimson Tide with Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman.

Updyke, the tea bagger, the crazy bitch at the Oklahoma game, you crazy bastards shooting each other... Social media begs to differ. Your fanbase isn't looked at in any way positive, anywhere...and whether you like it or not, it reflects on your university. You're dumb if you think otherwise...

Bama is just the newest bandwagon. It was USC in the early to mid 2000s.
Spot on. The real Bama fans were there for Shula, lots of the current ones will leave with Saban.
I would imagine most Alabama fans will not miss them tbh.
