Seriously though, I'm not quite sure what to think. The hire seemed to come out of left field.

I think, potentially, it could be very solid.

Won the big 10 2 out his 7 years coaching there. Which I guess, isn't bad. He's soon to be 2-5 in bowl games though. Overall a pretty decent hire though. Didn't really expect it

7.5/10

Win 7-9 games a year, go to some decent bowl games in Florida and Atlanta.

As much as you've railed about Arkansas during this entire process I don't want to ever hear you call someone Agsessed ever again. Also I'm shocked you hate the hire.

Being objective...

Brett Bielema

Pros
- 68-24 HC record
- 4 10+ win seasons
- 3 straight BCS Bowls*
- Fields competitive team
- Above .500+ conference (sans 2008)
- Barry Alvarez disciple

Cons
- In 7 years, never recruited a class ranked higher than #34 (Rivals)
- Average recruiting class - #48
- Two recruiting classes ranked #50 or worse. (56, 87)
- 2-4 Bowl Record
- 7 wins vs. Top 25 since 2006
- 0-2 in BCS Bowls
- 8-5 in a down B1G 10 Year
- Publicly complained about unfair recruiting
- In BCS due to other team's ineligibility*
- Prone to letdowns (26-21 Northern Iowa; 16-14 Utah State)

Meh. Has potential, but there are some serious questions marks. Not a knockout by any means, but atleast he is better than John L.

I gave you my sincere opinion, trolling aside.

Briles was the guy. He would have been really, really good.

And my hate for Arkansas is familial. Its fans and ours are one in the same.

If we hired Briles all we would hear on this board would be how his teams don't play defense, RG3 was reason for his success, etc. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. We could've done a lot worse than Bielema, in fact he has more skins on the wall than any other coach we've ever hired and he's still really young. Wisky doesn't have dick for high school talent so he had to look for underrated recruits and develop them into solid players, exactly what he'll need to do at Arkansas.

Pretty respectable hire. Will be interested to see whether Bileama ran the UW football team entirely or if Barry Alvarez was still involved.

Recruiting wise he will be in a very similar situation as both Arkansas and Wisconsin produce nearly the same number of recruits each year. Recruiting will likely be more competitive at Arkansas than what he dealt with at Wisconsin.

I expect he will struggle finding players for his defense early on as the state of Arkansas just doesn't produce tons of defensive recruits.

I'm not sure he can match the success Petrino had in 2010 and 2011 but should be infinitely better than John L. and marginally better than Hootie.

Give a frick?

All we heard about Sumlin was his pussy, C-USA offense wouldn't work in the SEC.

Do you think we're fretting that shite now?

and if Bielema comes in and turns the program around do you think we will?

I expect people to bash the hire, hell some of our fans will, just pointing our your over the top reaction during this whole process.

I think he'll get a couple years then have us in a decent bowl by year 3. Petrino left some talent at RB, OL and DL (which are his strong points) so that won't be an excuse, change in philosophy will be though and that's why he deserves a year or two.

I think its a good hire but an odd one. You are talking about a guy who likes to build a gigantic line and then run the ball about every play behind them. Please tell me how this is going to translate to Arkansas's personel that they have on their team at the current moment, presuming thats the kind of offense we are going to expect.

Wisconsin ran a very balanced offense last season.

But the guy just doesn't fit.

What we knew about Sumlin is that, notwithstanding his offense, the motherfricker would recruit his balls off.

Arky needs a recruiter in the worst way. You can't bank on striking gold with a genius who wins despite shitty recruiting. Most the time, that shite doesn't work.

And Belli was perfect for the B1G. It's a slow-arse, old fashioned conference where you can get by with throwing big, slow frickers out there each week.

But the SEC runs roughshod over that, man.

And now he has Sumlin, Malzahn, and Freeze in his division.

Remember, Belli is the same guy whose rough and tough style couldn't hold TCU down--a squad who gets, at best, 4th pick in the state.
