Tear away jerseys.

You are right about that. However, I do miss being able to watch games when there weren't so many damn yellow/blue/red lines and graphics on the screen that clutter the broadcast.I like having the score box in the corner of the screen, but hate all the other junk that is distracting. No, I don't need some annoying "down and distance arrow" graphic on the screen when the score box has the exact same information. No, I don't need some silly red line on the screen for a "target FG range".No, I don't need some unnecessary blue line on the screen to designate the line of scrimmage.

I went to an auction in Gardendale 8 or 9 years ago when the city sold the original Poly-Turf from Legion Field. It was basically just rolls of carper. I wanted o get a piece for my deck. Some guy bought almost all of it for $300 to put in an indoor hitting facility.

I miss many schools having beautiful grass fields.Especially schools that don't even have harsh winters.Hate the fake, junk turf.
Hate how there are 100 different camera angles for most games. No, the stupid overhead camera angle directly above the field does not enhance the broadcast. Also miss ABC televising 4 different games at the same time.If one game sucked or ended early, the viewer was switched to a different game.Miss Keith Jackson and Ron Franklin always calling the biggest games of the weekend.

quote:Yeah, I miss when the only music in the stadium came from the band. And when people would actually pay attention to the game instead of their smartphones.
Plain old football stadiums-not the dance party that has become BDS

Keith Jackson really is a national treasure.
When I moved out to Oregon in 2002, it was a treat to hear him call Pac 12 games on ABC.
Have many fond memories of listening to him call bowl games and other big games over the years. He called 16 Sugar Bowls and 15 Rose Bowls.
He was on the air for 54 years. Veteran of the Marine Corps and attended Wazzu on the GI Bill but grew up on a farm in Georgia.

I'm an older fan and I can't say I miss any of those things in particular.
Yes, the game was fun back then but today we're given so many more options to enjoy.
I'm not crazy about all the hot-dogging sometimes, but everything else is okay by me.
And no, absolutely no, to the old astroturf. That stuff was horrible.

From around 1999 until his retirement after the 2005 season, Jackson primarily called Pac 10 games since he lived on the West Coast and not so much travel.I moved out to Cali in 2003, so I got the pleasure of listening to him call many Pac 10 games.Bob Griese was his partner for much of his career, but Tim Brandt and Dan Fouts also worked alongside him.I loved listening to him call all the Rose Bowl games from my youth.I believe his final game he worked was the 2006 BCS title game thriller.
I did not know the last part about him.Great man.

I miss the days before TV timeouts. They really disrupt the flow of the game, kill momentum, and dampen stadium atmosphere.

I agree with a little bit of it.
I miss the Arkansas/Texas game, but not a whole bunch. Rarely think of it anymore. Let us play them in Fayettevile in a few years, and it will still be the hardest ticket to get all year.
SWC - don't miss it, but understand the appeal and nostalgia for it. It appeals to me as a western Arky, because our mindset and outlook are geared more toward Texas and the west than to Mississippi, Tennessee and the east.
I agree that stadium atmospheres jumped the shark ten years ago.
