I just haven't heard a response as to why, reasonably, would Gruden leave his HIGH PAYING gig to come to a program like Arkansas? I am as big of a hog fan as any yet few of our fans will admit he'd be crazy to come here.
He's making (rumored) somewhere in the 6-8 million range doing what he's doing right now.
He'd take a cut in pay for 10x the stress as he has doing MNF... AND work longer hours. I just don't get it.

So does nutt.
Most of our stars from last year came from petrino's first class. Wilson, adams, childs, wright, gragg, etc...who knows if he could have kept it up with these guys. We've never really seen him at a program for more than 4 years...i'd be interested to see if he could still win at a high rate with all the attrition. Our next coach should be a better recruiter so hopefully that will get us going again

You guys are suffering for sure and that type of recruiting is hard to do even if you were trying to suck!
I think you need a quick fix and only one man can do it. Troopa Taylor! Instant top ten recruiting along with plenty of sideline pimping for the cameras. That means ESPN highlights out the wazoo.
Troopa, the new mofo face of Arkansas Football.

First of all, I don't think Gruden is coming here. With that said at a certain point for coaches it isn't all just about the money. I mean millions and millions of dollars are paid to them. Gruden doesn't have to work another day in his life if he doesn't want to. So in my opinion he won't base this entirely on money but more of what legacy can he leave behind. Does he want to do that with us or tennessee or does he stay out of coaching forever because he proved he could win a super bowl so what is really bigger than that.

IMO Gruden wants to be the next John Madden

It's very possible. I think he'll take a job eventually but i'm not sure he is quite ready yet. He almost flaunts the unemployed coach status too much, very clearly fake bitching about it.

Arknasas has averaged more than 5 losses a year since they joined the SEC............

We have been trying to tell you guys this for the past couple years. Y'all refused to listen, saying your recruiting classes were just fine, and that you didn't need top recruiting classes anyway. Any school that ever says that is completely delusional. Take a look at the last several national champions...they all have one thing in common...they recruit in the top 10 every year....and they get guys who actually show up. Nutt was an expert at Ole Miss by signing what looked to be good classes on paper, but most had issues (which was why the elite schools didn't offer) and never made it to campus.

Petrino sucked as a recruiter. Period. To say otherwise make you look pretty damn stupid.

Good god....Gruden isn't coming to Arkansas. Alabama is a totally different animal where you can recruit. You can't recruit in Arkansas, you just can't. Look what Petrino left you with, although I'll admit he is not a great recruiter. Many have also said that Gruden would not be a great recruiter either...and I can believe that. You need a great recruiter...otherwise, I don't care who you have as coach...you aren't ever going to win a SEC Championship. I think you guys may be beginning to realize that recruiting cannot be overstated.

yep, and as long as that is what you hang your hat on, you will always be a small player in the SEC. At some point, you have to stop idolizing LSU as the highlight game of your year, and focus on the bigger picture of trying to win an SEC Championship. It really is pitiful. LSU has lost to pretty much everyone now and then....but then when they are good, they are really good...I'll take the tradeoff.

I got BURNED by my fellow Hog Fans on the recruiting board but can smile now. I stand by my statement... Bobby Petrino was just a much better coach than Nutt with the same Arkansas talent. Petrino's idiot move was having 17.. yes, 17 receivers on scholarship in the SEC West. Ego, my friends ego
If you read UT fans posting on this board a month ago then you would realize WRs are about the only thing you need to win the SEC according to them.

we've all eaten crow, we lost our coach, we know we suck, you should be focused on trying to get on Alabama's level rather than slumming with us.

You can't talk shite about a guy who turned a 5-8 team into an 11-2 team in three years.
Gene Chizik turned a 5-7 team into a 14-0 team in 2 years, yet I can talk plenty of shite about him.

I still see Arkansas as having a Ton of talent but presently not well coached and with very little game plan.
I agree with this. Just check the first quote below from a game in 2010 where he fumbled a couple of times, and compare it to the second quote from this past week.
Knile Davis in 2010:
"I don't like to fumble. I take that very seriously. But at least we won. It felt good to come up big to help out the team."
Knile Davis in 2012:
"I can't think of one great running back that hasn't fumbled. It's just part of the game, and you've got to be aware and just keept it tight."
