As far as Jones "party" stories, while still in the NFL, when he would come back to visit his parents, he would mainly hang out at the casinos across the border in Oklahoma.
All he really wanted to talk about was our HS basketball games, football always seemed like it was a thing he was good enough at to get things basketball wouldn't provide (free college, pro career, etc).
As far as his coke issue, it was a Jacksonville issue, He caught a short leash because Del Rio didn't think he cared enough or showed enough effort in practice. Jville had other players who had coke problems who the jags worked with because they thought the players were worth the risk (Taylor, etc).

Saw him out on Dickson Street in college. He always had an entourage following him around. He never really seemed that messed up when he was out though. Definitely not a wild and crazy drunk like some of the other players that have come through.
I worked at a liquor store for a bit in college and sold him a 12 pack of Miller Lite at around midnight the night before an early morning game his senior year. That's my CSB Matt Jones moment.

I love Matt. Maybe his seemingly don't care attitude added to it- it's like he was a magician at times. And he really is good looking too. Grwwll.

Only second to DMAC as my favorite hog. His highlights are impressive

Not even close to top 5 athletes all time in the SEC. He was barely above average at QB. He never really excelled at anything in his career. Think of guys like Bo Jackson.

No, but I do recall LSU posters saying Flynn would be a starter if he wasn't behind Rogers in Green Bay.

Matt Jones in Malzahns offense, he would have been a Heisman winner.
I don't know if he would have won, but he'd have been very competitive for one. In large part it was Houston Nutt's tenure... at both Arkansas and Ole Miss... in a nutshell. If you will pardon the pun there.
Nutt was allergic to risks. Oh, he'd come up with some triple reverse dumb arsery from time to time, but for the most part he played it so safe he put talented teams in a hole. A handful of teams and games he'd go all out and usually his teams won those games.
He would coach like mad for the first two seasons at a job and then he'd start to get too conservative. The up and down nature of his tenure at Arkansas and the great start followed by a nosedive off the cliff at Ole Miss are prime examples.
Someone like Malzahn would have taken one look at Jones and based the entire offense around him, basically daring the other team to stop the biggest weapon. All while cheerfully wracking up yards left and right by making teams focus on Jones while other players were allowed to run wild. HDN was never fully comfortable with unleashing Matt Jones in an option attack.

He is also the last LSU QB to lose to Arkansas under the lights of Tiger Stadium.
