If the school fires Bielema over the next three years, it would owe him $15.4 million.

Ouch. That's the part that I'd worry about - the AD has hitched its wagon to Bert for the next 3 years come hell or high water. I think he's finally turning things around there, well at least starting to, but it's a pretty big gamble to base a contract on the data that's in and a gut feeling. That buyout clause is too much.

improved

Arkansas fans keep bringing this up but you literally had nowhere to go but up from 0 conference wins and last in the division. I would've at least waited one more year to see if the trend continued before putting a big fat extension on table like a plate of ribs.

We lost to Alabama 52-0 in 2013 and lost to them by 1 point last year. You can't just look at win-loss record. It was a night and day difference

Yeah... giving him credit for improving in 2014 is pretty ridiculous.

Lol. Giving credit for improvement is ridiculous? If that's the case, I'm surprised Auburn fans aren't always on here crucifying Gus "one hit wonder" Malzahn for regressing. With his own players.

What was the original contract amount and buyout based on? Was it expecting 0 wins? Why can't you rationally discuss the topic and stay on point?

Only in coaching and politics do you get rewarded for mediocrity.

Not directing this at Bert by the way, just coaching and politics in general.

Do you think it was a good business decision for the school? Do you think they should have waited another year? What did the school have to lose if they waited a year? What does the school gain by doing this now?

Why is this getting to you that much? Not your team, not your coach, not your AD, not your money.

Who says no one came after him? Who knows the reasons. Our AD is pretty damn good and I choose to trust he had good sound reason for it.

I made a pretty simple statement and got a lot of emotional and irrational responses.

In February? Who?

That is fair. I think the school jumped the gun a bit.

You know your football program is shitty when.....

$4.25 million annually

And yet, somehow they shut your team out and your defensive coordinator left for a lateral transfer. And before you say he (Chavis) took a step down and not lateral...what would THAT say about LSU?

Based on the amount he is guaranteed, I wouldn't be shocked.

I don't want to get in between you two....but....

I think Arkansas did a good thing. You got a good coach and he has the program headed in the right direction.

Also, the Arky fans should stop and consider what WDE is saying. He also has a point. All he is saying is that you could have waited a year and kept your risk down....just in case.

That said...I don't think your season last year was a fluke. Bert is a proven coach. He is a good fit for you. I think he continues to build on the momentum you have going. But you should just stop and give what WDE is saying a little consideration and take him at face value. Try to assume he is not trolling. He makes a legitimate comment. I think Arky did a good thing, though, personally.

The raise to $4 mill isn't a big deal, about in line with the SEC Avg... But the 3 year roll over buyout at $15.4 mill that finally drops to $11.7 mill in '18...
