It's very similar to what LSU does with programs from Louisiana

Unlike A&M though, LSU has a winning record over the programs in the state.

Actually we are just following the example of our real daddy, Bama, who refused to play their instate rival for years until the legislature made them play. If we are going to copy someone it is going to be the best, and not programs like those in Arkansas or Louisiana.

Some of y'all are truly obsessed with whether A&M plays texas or not. This thread gets rerun once every two weeks, it seems like

Same response as always: we tried to keep them on the schedule. They didn't want to play any longer. We've moved on. So should y'all

The Charlie Strong quote in finestfirst post says it all...

They don't want to play. We don't need to play. It's no big deal.

Probably why Texas is playing Hogs and LSU, Texas is the one that won't play A&M

Exactly.

What is really going on is they are using the Arky playbook. When Arky left the SWC, Texas stopped playing them and the loss of Texas talent killed what that program was.

They expected the same to happen to us, but they forgot we are in Texas. Even worse for them even if we don't ever become a real threat to their control of the state thanks to us they will always have to fight an Ole Miss or Bama for talent that ten years ago was theirs without a fight.

Even without our own success we fricked up some of their natural advantages and they are trying to punish us for doing that by not playing us.

We are fine with it because we got more from beating Bama once then we ever got out of beating them. The risk and reward of playing Texas just doesn't add up.

You would hope so Oman, but unfortunately we know that not to be the case. The evidence is the print media. Local newspapers seem to be pushing that agenda.

Texas Monthly is certainly not fine with it. Whether or no that is at the request of Bellmont or just hard feelings from unhappy alumni remains to be seen.

When we left to the SEC, we said we would continue playing them, and we would play them anytime, anywhere.

They said they would never play us again if we left.

We said "Bye, Felicia!"

We wish, but the existence of the thread proves otherwise.

College football fans are just too damn conservative, and I don't mean politically. They want everything to be the exact same way it was when they were kids, they always want a Texas or a Bama or a Michigan or a Nebraska to be good (and to be beating the teams they "should" beat) because they lack the mental capacity to handle change and transition. That is where the moronic "college football is better when Michigan is good" comments come from.

Honestly this entire SEC move and the fallout for A&M (where random people have attacked us for just TRYING to improve our lot in life) makes me feel real sympathy for the scorn heaped on top of Boise St during the BCS Era for trying to crash the party. Not only is college football a caste system, but it seems most fans LIKE it that way even though it means 100 out of the 120ish teams never have a chance to compete. If everyone would support the program they are closest too, or they actually graduated from, instead of the programs with the most success the entire sport will be better.

My only hope is soon Goodell gets fired from the NFL so I have a reason to care about the football product that actual values parity and change.

If Texas stays in the Big 12 (I really, really want the Pac 12), I'd like Texas to do one of two things:

1.) Setup an annual, out of conference rivalry game (much like Florida-FSU, South Carolina-Clemson, Georgia-Georgia Tech), or

2.) Play every few years at an alternating neutral site (Dallas, Houston, San Antonio). This could potentially be great for allowing flexibility in scheduling and it builds anticipation.

The longer this game isn't played, the more it loses its luster. It was first strange not playing on Thanksgiving day and then it was really strange playing Texas Tech on Thanksgiving day the following year. Texas Tech? Pssh...they are a consolation prize. Now, it's been a good while, that the "weirdness" has worn off. I don't keep up A&M as much and the banter between Aggy friends has fallen off.

With that all said, if the two never played again, we certainly had an appropriate ending. Texas putting the nail in the coffin in Aggy.

Yep. The fortunes of the two programs really changed after the game, in a way Longhorn fans wouldn't like....

The game likely won't be played as long as the LHN exists

Very much so.

Hell posters make fun of CGSC Lobotomy for his "the series is even since 197X (sorry I don't remember exact year)" talking point because they think he is trying to deflect from the alltime record (which is crazy lopsided). In reality it just shows that we are WAY more competitive with the horns than people give us credit for, as much people just assume our "daddy" beat us every year (when that wasn't the case in the modern era).

I honestly don't think Texas ever got a lot out of beating us either, we never pushed them to a national title or kept them out of one. The game always was a regional novelty, and a new SEC vs Big 12 angle will be played out in a year or two of doing it.

We have enough enticing teams on our schedule to fill our seats, which is what really matters to everyone not obsessed with rivalries like Bama. Lets leave it at that.
