No, it does not "stand alone". It benefits from being in the SEC. The SEC's success as a whole benefits the teams in the conference.

Always pull for the SEC. The conference dominance narrative is a great selling point for our program.

I would argue it does. The success of all teams helps the narrative, and helps all teams recruit top talent. You make the argument that A&M gets more kids you want, and while that's true, the SEC doing well makes you fight over a large pot of kids, and a lot of times national.
For example, if A&M didn't land a kid out of Arizona at QB, there is a pretty good chance Brandon Harris would be our commit at that position, and LSU would have Sione Palelei.
I'm sure with all the national recruiting Alabama is doing, that if they didn't get their first choice at another location, they would prey on another LSU commit.

I usually pull for SEC teams in OOC games but this year I must make exception in the BCSCG.

I mostly pull for the SEC teams that are trying to get better. I tend to root against the SEC teams that are doing well.

Pull for all.
The bowls are where the SEC builds its aura of invincibility. We beat the frick out of each other and then the mid tier teams beat the frick out of the higher ranked teams in bowls. Helps everyone in recruiting.

Generally for the SEC in all none conference games, especially bowl games.
