Hang in there, DC.

Thanks, cyde.

Hurts like a motherfricker but I'll get over it eventually. I have to keep it in perspective and remember this has to be much harder for the players and his family.

As an Lsu fan, I don't think he had to be fired. I understand why. But Arkansas could have given him the Peyton suspension.

Honestly? I think that the right decision was made. It sucks for his family, the players and staff, the fans...but the more details that came out, I realized more and more that he deserved to be fired.

Ah, don't mention it.

Oh... and about our little sammich agreement from last season? We'll just forget about that. In fact... I'm not very creative at making them myself, but I can go by any deli of your choice and pick you something up. You just name it.

so is it the 20k that put some of you on the other side of the fence? bc yesterday a lot of these same ppl were saying they didn't care what he does as long as he wins. Just about everything said at the PC was already out there but the 20k payment and the specific no. of ppl that applied for the job

I think it may be the confirmation that there were shenanagins with her hiring. That, coupled with the number of people who applied and the $20k payment that came day after she was hired? Yeah, he didn't really leave Long with any choice.

I developed a lot of respect for Jeff Long yesterday. He made the tough, unpopular, but correct decision. No one can be bigger than the program and the University.

There's plenty of them. Initial reports yesterday said BP would be suspended and you should have seen the rejoicing by the Arky posters here. The flaming of LSU and other fans had already started until the real news broke. Made it even sweeter for me.

Most of the ones who are now saying they support the firing are clearly lying.

was there really any doubt? guess if your head was in the sand, but this was the whole point of everyone making the case that he was going to be fired from the day it broke

Yes....the 20k and the confirmation that he was deceitful multiple times when he had the chance to come clean on it all.

ETA: Thanks, cyde! You're a sweetheart

Not in the minds of anyone objective. As soon as it came out that he'd hired her, I figured he was done as the coach. But for passionate Arkansas fans, who didn't want to believe it and didn't want to lose their coach? Yeah, they'd probably be looking for any detail that didn't lead to the obvious.

I personally thought maybe he had just put in a good word for her which still wasn't cool but I was willing to overlook it.

I understand, girl. If it were Pinkel in the same position, I wouldn't want to believe it. And I probably wouldn't believe it until there was an announcement like Long's last night. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt until I'm proven wrong, especially if it's someone I respect. Then when I'm proven wrong, I want the book thrown at 'em! Maybe it's a girl thing?

Oh I believed it...I believed he did it, I was just hoping there was a way around it. Quite honestly, I didn't give a shite.

But the extent of his lying, the 20k, etc etc. tipped it the other way. He fricked us, the team, his wife and family over.

I don't think this one incident was the only one. Reading between the lines, it sounds like he has made a habit of abusing his position.

I think that's right - lying to different bosses at multiple jobs for sure

If I had to guess I think the boldness of his behavior with the girlfriend makes it seem extremely likely he had done this type of thing a lot in the past

+1

She's definitely no saint for what she did (cheated on her fiancee and took money for sex essentially) - but she's going to pay a very heavy personal price for being the object of BP's desire (might as well move to california at this point)

Sure, there are some. I think a very strong majority knows he got what he had coming to him. I think that sentiment is even stronger among alums.

SIAP, but this was taken on campus today:

The way I looked at it, he didn't just crash that motorcycle. Dude pretty much wrapped his career around a tree while he was at it.

I fully expect another team to hire Petrino within the year.

It's possible, but there are doubts as to how successful he'll be, at least at the FBS college level. I can't see him being able to recruit effectively now, as any coach worth his salt will be able to use this against him in a recruit's living room.

probably - but he has really hurt himself when it comes to options.

people in the NFL still remember how he bailed on the Falcons and the college stops in Louisville and Arkansas ended up with some very hurt feelings in both places

Yep. Jessica's too, although she put herself in the position to have her career tanked by sleeping with her boss.
