Timing and trajectory matter. The big seasons helped some, sure, but I'd argue maximum recruiting value was not extracted like it would have been if they had come in 2014-15, showing the program was on an upward swing. Instead, the perception is that the fewer Mike Sherman-recruited players in the program, the fewer wins for the Aggies. And to show progress, A&M would have had to ascend to the super elite status of 11 or 12 wins per year, which is basically impossible

sumlin got drunk on JFF.
the right coach can do really well there. I thought that may be Sumlin but I was probably wrong.
if a coach can keep the recruits away from the cult side of campus, and the bat guano, then the sky is the limit there.

Possible. This is when Aggie sneaks up on folks, when we are all laughing at them.
I expect a better team. They have made some coaching staff upgrades (IMHO) and have gotten rid of Allen and Murray. Good qbs sure, but Murray is a little bitch and Allen is too for acting like one when he left. Very female thing for him to do.

the use of the phrase "on the decline" is misleading. most of the time programs do indeed go thru an ebb and flow, cycles if you will. a&m is a top 25 program historically and will remain that over the long run. they desparately are trying to elevate with their entry into the SEC, new facilities and top coaches (in their opinion).
a lot of people have forgotten that their athletic dept. was running in the red not long ago; the entry into the SEC sparked a huge fervor of support from their many alumni and they opened up their wallets like no other time in their history.
imo, they are not on the decline. bumps in the road? yes. sumlin doesn't seem like the man to put them over the hump but, like any program, they will keep trying until they find the HC that will bring them consistent top 10 success.
in the meantime, I hope all of you join me in relishing the aggies' travails and tribulations while their fans (some of them) continue to blow hot air about their greatness.

I honestly expect 9-10 wins out of Aggy. Despite what most LSU fans want to believe, Chavis is improving that D and it alone will win them 7-8.
I'll never admit this again though.

you are full of shite. MOST LSU fans have not stated anything negative about Chavis outside of his recruiting failures and his prevent D at the end of games. in fact, most LSU fans (myself included) have openly stated that Chavis was a big upgrade over their previous DC's. he has proven that to be true. he is one of the best DC's in the business and he elevated them immediately. BUT, he still is not a factor in recruiting and at LSU he held on to a DL coach that also couldn't recruit. his result, at LSU, was a steady decline in our DL and LB corps. those he recruited were too small for SEC play (fast as hit tho) against power up the middle teams.
if the aggies will recruit LB and DL better, Chavis will be the best thing to happen to them. but they need to do better than they did this year. if not, just like at LSU, the quality of the DL and LB will go down.
