Matt Jones was a freak athlete BEAST. Unstoppable... he ran the fastest QB 40 time ever at the NFL combine. (4.37). He tore it up as WR in the NFL until the drugs derailed him. I would pick Jones over Michael Vick. The only comparable College QB in my book is Cam.

Vick ran a 4.33 at the combine

I remember thinking how silly he made defenders look trying to catch him!

I wanted the Jaguars to draft him... shame he couldn’t keep himself out of trouble to have a good career.

He was drafted as a WR.

And...drafted in the 1st round as a receiver....and the Jags wonder why they are what they are

I’m a huge Matt Jones fan. Here’s a little or not well known fact, he scored more points in high school basketball than Corliss Williamson did in high school. Natural athlete, anyone who is 6 foot 6, 242 pounds and runs a 4.37 with a 39 inch vertical is a freak of nature.

I remember him being arrested for cocaine.
As an athlete he was definitely a talent.

Watching Jones eviscerate Texas in 2003 was eye opening. That game had to be really fun for Arkansas fans.

It certainly was..... then came the Nutt “October Special”.

Fortunately I was naked with a chick named Brandi in Tempe, AZ during most of the Florida game and didn’t care much.

I will never understand how someone can cover so much ground while looking so slow.
Easily the most memorable thing about him. Didn't look like he was moving at all but he's dusting everyone on the field.

All I remember is Georgia stomping him and Arky in the 2002 SEC title game.

I was living in Little Rock during his playing years and as an LSU fan he drove me crazy. I think LSU did the best job of containing him but defenses would totally misjudge his speed. He was fun to watch.

How was the 12 hours you spent in the rain?

It was as miserable as you would think it was. Game ended around midnight, and it was a driving rain most of the 2nd half. Cold and miserable with an L to walk to the car with.

Good football weather. You had seats for a piece of football history.

I really wish I had be able to attend.

He didn’t look even the slightest bit slow.

He was built to be a generational wr but he didn’t have the mental dedication to fulfill his natural talent and capabilities. Tight ends don’t run sub 4.4 and get over the top of the safety like he could...

He was ahead of his time. I would love to see what he could do in a modern RPO.

Lmao. Jackson didn’t have a great NFL career. He averaged 700 yards 4 tds and 4 ints for 10 years. He managed to get 10 years in the league but his time can’t be considered remotely close to great. Jones was the perfect qb for the system Nutt wanted to run.

I busted my arse after one of those games in LR around that time on the course. My boot heels were too high and I could have possibly been drinking
