I've been to Morgantown many times, and always enjoyed it.

I have never been to a football game there, though. I'd certainly give it a try. I promise you they won't be any worse than Florida fans.

ETA - and anyone who thinks it's anything like Ohio or New Jersey has never been there. Culturally it's much more like the working class towns in Pennsylvania and western Maryland.

Morgantown is alright, nothing special, but a good time nonetheless. West Virginia is beautiful to drive through in the fall.

I've been there a few times.

They're a lot like LSU fans but they smell better.

Lived there for 2 years. It's a decent experience to go to WVU games but I can't say I would seek out the experience over some other venues you have never been to. Here is my personal opinion on some things about the area:
-there is a higher populous of "fringe" fans at WVU than at most SEC schools. Those fringe fans and students actually take pride in being disruptive, rude, and crazy. Some of them will get in your face and cuss at you etc. It's not that all WVU fans are bad, it's just the there are more bad ones and they are worse than usual.
-There are great fans here, though. If you do come and want to experience good fans, go to the Blue Lot between the hospital and football stadium and get as close to the hospital as you can. These people are nice and will welcome you.
-They've done a ton of work around the stadium and the north part of town. It is pretty nice. The downtown/south part of town is overrun by student housing/bars/rundown old buildings. Stay around 705. You can take a trolley to downtown if you want to go.
-If you do come and like the outdoors, take a few days and hike around, boulder/climb at coopers rock, or mountain bike some local trails. The natural resources are among the best in the eastern US.

I've been one time, just as a side trip one time. I'm going back this year. I have a certain respect for the WV folk. They are rambunctious, no doubt about it. But they also don't fake liking you, which is something that I have seen in the SEC. They don't like you, they will tell you about it. To me, that is better than people faking the "southern hospitality" thing.

Word of advice, don't mention Randy Moss. (made the comparison of DGB to him, did not go well)

not a safe space.

We had a good time in 2011. A lot of their college chicks are trashy hot who like to drop F bombs. We thought it was funny and egged them on so it wasn't a problem. We did see some interracial domestic violence by some townies after the game while sitting in traffic which was kind of intense.

Gainesville is super trashy as well. I had a better time in Morgantown honestly but we won that game and lost at UF so that could somewhat cloud my judgment though.

Plus the nathure scenery in WV was nice as well. Pittsburgh isn't far away from Morgantown either.

I think it is whatever you make out of it honestly. Never been to WV but my trips to Nebraska, Tennessee, Florida, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Illinois have all been positive. You find the right group of people to hang out with, stay away from the 20 year old drunks, and don't overdo the drinking yourself and you should be cool anywhere.

Nebraska has been my favorite road trip by far but Tennessee was so the opposite of what I see on this board. (This was 2012) The fans were very welcoming, cool about the state of both programs, and really nice after a 4 OT gutpunch loss.

I'm pretty sure the drunkin WV fans might say something but they will move on if you don't respond and try to find somebody to take the bait.

Let's just say that WV has to post no hunting signs at the roadside parks.

Lot's of backwwods looking types that give anyone with out of state tags the stink eye. Good place to stay away from.

Went to the 2005 Sugar Bowl. Fans love their team but they are the definition of trash. It was like a mega episode of Jerry Springer.
