Work in what way? Go 9-3/10-2 every year, with a 1 loss season a couple times a a decade and compete for a natty? Sure.

There is a related question.

Just because someone is a crackerjack coordinator of some sort, why should they necessarily be a good head coach?

Between recruiting, being the face man, meeting with boosters, giving speeches, tv appearances, Dan Patrick interviews, you just don't have time to watch a lot of film and come up with game plans. And if you do, you are probably doing it wrong. And that's not including dealing with your players smoking weed and whatnot.

Why exactly is being a coordinator considered to be the pipeline to head coach? Seems like the job is totally different. Actually being an ace recruiter seems like you have a skill set better suited to head guy. Sell ice to eskimos, etc.

We'll see. If he's not winning 10 games he's not what we want. No one winning 10 games in the SEC will stay under 5, especially in 3 years.

We had 9 SEC coaches over 4mil last year

You need a CEO intellect to be a CEO.

Can it? Yes. See Urban Meyer.Urban rarely steps in. He lets his Cords do their stuff and trust them to do it well. So can it? Absolutely.

Will it?

No clue. The cords are certainly good, but the head coach being bad will automatically hurt the tigers. He is a football coach. No way he doesn't put his own touch on the team.

I see it working for now. But if he hires a poor coordinator after Canada leaves, or Ara, then he is in trouble. Don't think he can make up for a bad coordinator.

Because every great dynasty/program has an identity. Because of that, you'll have continuity on at least one side of the ball. What does Orgeron believe in? I don't know. I don't think he knows.

A HC that has no identity because he has no real expertise in running an offense or defense will have an offense and defense that's in flux every couple of years if he has coordinators looking to move on after making a name for themselves. How is he going to recruit a top QB, and then have to hire a new OC halfway through that guy's career that runs an offense that's completely different than what he knows. I see there being a continuity problem when the team's identity is at the whim of the coaching carousel.

Ed O has basically said, ok I'm going to hire elite coordinators and let them coach. I'm going to be the face of the program and recruit, motivate, and play to my strengths.

Works for Urban Meyer. Problem is you have to have elite talent and a good qb to win it all. LsU has a Purdue transfer at qb.

I would say O's identity football-wise is a physical, tough defensive line. Not saying it's going to be a constant strength under O because nobody knows yet, but that is what his resume' would suggest.

Bama has "won it all" without good QBs. All you need is an average QB if you have a great defense and a good Oline.

The HC has to be a bumbling incoherent idiot to not win 10 games with the talent in LA and the current overall prowess of the SEC

Could work while we have good coordinators. They will move on to the NFL or to CFB HC positions. We will have to replace them and then who knows?

I really like Aranda and I'm optimistic about Canada. I feel like we're going to have some success this season. Maybe not championship-level success, but the record will improve. I'm thinking 10-2 and at NYD bowl game.

We've got a very promising freshman behind him named Myles Brennan.

And we finally have someone who will develop our QB's, regardless if they're pro style or duel threat.
Matt Canada is not recruiting "Dual Threat" QB's unless they actually have some decent passing skills.

No more "Glorified Running Backs" that can't hit the broad side of a barn with a football trying to play QB at the Ole War Skule..........

I wouldn't have been upset if we would have hired Aranda as HC

On that note I am happy with the way Coach so has done so far.

I reserve the right to retract the above comment in the next 24 hours

It can work say 85% of the time, but that 15% where you need to rely on your head coach, I can't say with confidence that Ed is going to fill that role positively

I posted on your own message board after O was hired that that's what he was going to do. He failed as a head coach because he micro managed everything. He's likely learned from all of that by now.

The question to me is whether O can be that guy. But yeah it can work. You could argue that's what Saban does right now. How many assistants do they have? Geez.

Richt did it at Georgia and had good seasons there. It just depends on if you're good or bad.

I think it's a big question certainly. But I still think LSU goes 10-2 if that answers your CEO question

Ed O has basically said...

He has "said" no such thing... the ranters have said it and repeated it until they all believe it. "O is just going to be a CEO and let the AC do all the coaching an play calling an run the team..." He has NEVER said that, nor anything like it, and it is just plan laughable to see these corn dogs on here repeating this fantastic crap over and over like talking robotic puppets.

If you believe ANY head coach is going to just be a figure head and stand on the sidelines like a big dope, I have some swamp land that will never flood just for you at a good price. Why is it that LSU fans especially get so ecstatic over assistant coaches year after year? I'll bet they cannot even name the OC and DC at Clemson last year without looking it up. Good god, we have to do something about the education system in Louisiana.
