Such a ridiculous claim. How anybody with an iota of basketball intelligence could watch Kentucky play basketball, with a team full of guys in their first year collegiately, and come away thinking their coach just rolled the balls out...........
You just have to be an idiot.
some of the idiocy spewed on here regarding basketball has become a normalcy to me at this point.

Are you really suggesting he can't coach? And here I thought you were a decent SEC basketball poster on this board.

And if that is your definition of a scrub then I tip my hat to you sir.
It's not a scrub but it's not just automatic for a Top 25-40 player to make the lottery. Actually, it's relatively unlikely.

It's the one thing I don't understand. You don't have to be TOTALLY to one side of something.
You can agree that Saban is the best recruiter ever and a pretty above average game day coach, but not the very best. It doesn't have to be HE'S THE WORST GAMEDAY COACH EVER HES TERRIBLE AT IT.
Same with Calipari. He may not be Brad Stevens, but people act like he is Jonny Jones. And there is almost zero reason why. When have his teams ever played lazy, non defense, hero ball? Ever?

Until he wins another title or so at Kentucky, this will be a knock on him. Fair or not.
It seems like with an NBA all-star team he would have more that one title. IMO, there are countless coaches who would have one title if the replaced Cal. Not saying he isn't a good coach, just don't think he is the best.

Harrelson was garbage a plays in Japan. Cal duped the NBA into drafting that scrub. Miller was a top 40 recruit and again is overseas. He didn't mold them into NBA players, the are just more association washouts.
I just read some stories about how Gillespie treated Harrelson. What an a-hole.

And therein lies the rub. I think Tubby Smith was a better Xs and Os guy than Cal. But that doesn't mean Calipari isn't a good coach.
Vacated wins aside, if he doesn't run into 1996 Kentucky he has a very good shot at a NC at UMass. Free throws cost him one at Memphis.
It's absolutely hilarious that he's become the Dan Marino of coaches when he's in the Hall of Fame and has a NC with multiple Runner-Ups, multiple Final Fours, etc.

Exactly, there are large swaths of gray. Everyone is not THE BEST or THE WORST.

You specifically asked if he took a "scrub" and made them an NBA player. Harrellson played in the NBA. Miller was just outside of the Top 40, but it shouldn't be understated how far Gillispie set his development back.
Gillispie had Miller to the point that he wanted to quit basketball and purposely pissed up a winning shot against Ole Miss (that was the turning point for him under Cal BTW).

Loved Darius Miller. One of those guys you are really happy to see succeed, especially after having to deal with being "the savior" of the Gillespie fiasco.

I'm just sad Cal couldn't convince Jodie Meeks to return for his senior year after the Gillispie shite. That was literally the missing piece for that Wall/Cousins team that would've broke through for a championship IMO. They didn't have that great perimeter shooter.

That 2010 team.........good grief
Patrick Patterson, DeAndre Liggins, Demarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe, John Wall

No it won't. The man went to title games at Memphis and UMASS for crying out loud. UMASS!
An undefeated season and losing in the title game is nothing to scoff at. He's a hell of a coach- period.

idk how he hasn't won more titles considering the talent that has been through UK.
The tournament is entertaining for us but it's a lousy way to crown a champion in basketball.

Kentucky fans are goijg to flip out about this. Everytome insay it they tell me its not an advantage at all to have a college team with 6 nba players and lose in the 3rd round round to a team with zero nba players.

CAn you imagine Brad Stevens with UK's talent? No knock to Cal by saying that-I've said numerous times he's a hell of a coach. But Stevens is next level in-game.
