I wish he'd have went into the methodology more but I don't doubt that the U is high. They were producing guys like mad for a while and the time frame for analysis was stated as being over the last 15 years.

Yeah they have a stellar number of alums playing in the league. And for sure, Florida has a lot of busts in the NFL. I don't know what scale they're grading on because I wouldn't think FSU produced a high number of busts either (Ponder and Manuel, exempt).

And I didn't know that so many of Alabama's NFL pros were on par with draft position, but that's probably just bias from being on the Rant so long.

I mean y'all could've just called it Germans and I would've gotten that. That's the usual response.

I think Bama's busts have been more recent and that's why the reputation is there but over the longer period of 15 yrs. it evens out. FSU is an odd one. I didn't expect to find them on the list.

I'm living on borrowed time -- some guy name Rory the Ape in Memphis lent it to me back in the spring of naught-seven -- so I don't have the patience to go back 8 pages to find a thread. Thanks for posting this topic so I got a chance to see it, Prof. I find the statistic fascinating, and while it does make certain universities look bad, so does the city of Gainesville. I think the latter issue should be addressed before trying to tackle the former.

I'd suggest that the primary reason for this problem, whether with Bama, LSU, UF, or FSU, is the numbers game. You put more players in the NFL, you're going to have more chances at putting a bust there. The reason Bama specifically gets a lot of flack is, well, they're winning national titles more often than most teams compete for divisional titles, so attacking their busts is pretty much the last recourse for trolling their football program. It's human nature.

Can't believe you agreed to a deal with Rory. He's notorious for calling in the worst possible favors but you probably know that already. I never knew bananas could be used in so many strange ways. *shivers*

But back on point, the Gainesville issue is easily the more embarrassing and pressing one. However it may be much tougher to solve. Hell my spellchecker is so embarrassed by it that it corrects Gainesville to Bougainvillea. WTF?

To be fair, the only bananas the grocery store had were under-ripe, so he could hardly have predicted that...outcome.

All I get for Gainesville is this squiggly red underline telling me it's not an acceptable word. Let's try a few others: Nashville. Knoxville. Columbia. Tuscaloosa. Oxford. Starkville. Lexington. Athens. Fayetteville. Auburn. Yankee Meth Town. The only two that get bitchy red lines are Starkville and (surprisingly, seeing as it is also the home of a major military base in N.C.) Fayetteville. This all must mean something. Possibly something deeply insulting.

I omitted College Station and Baton Rouge because those consist of real words external to their use as city names. As does Auburn, for that matter.

Has anyone successfully answered the question why UF players can't compete in the NFL?

What exactly is USATODAY's criteria to be a bust? Is it based on stats or games played?

this will be the first time in a loooong time that we actually field a more talented team across the board. Talent typically wins out in college

We hear this every year regarding tennessee versus Florida. When will it stop?

I don't know when the voices in your head will stop saying that. You certainly don't hear it from us. You do hear everyone make the claim that they hear it yet no one ever says it. It seems to be a disorder around these parts borne of repetition and group think.

Or as Goebbels put it, "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."
