I don't think they're playing up to it. There is just something missing. Who has been LSU's deep threat? They have had the luxury of a WR that can get past you and out jump you for a while. Add that to their running game and they are so nasty. But it doesn't seem to be there this year.

I'm usually nervous that they have a guy or two that can just go out and beat their man because he's better. The matchups seem to really favor Alabama this time. That usually can't be said.

They have to spread the field more though, when teams so 8 and even 9 in the box you can't line up with one damn receiver in the formation, it's too obvious what you are going to do. And even if Mett wanted to check out of it what's he gonna check too with 1 wideout.

well they really haven't done this all year, however i'm confident saban and smart will be prepared for 2 and 3 man routes just in case les pulls out the secret playbook.

I just don't see lsu being able to throw the ball on alabama, the receivers are meh and the qb is meh, meanwhile alabama plays great in the back 7. The Lsu defense could keep the game close, but I expect bama to sell out to stop the run and force mett to try to win it. Basically I think 13 points would be enough for an alabama victory, though i'm hoping for much more than that

if that's the matchup then LSU would seem like a loser - LSU's hope is they can run it like last November when they substantially out-rushed Bama despite almost no passing production

I'd take any wager right now LSU scores more than 13.

It seems like a bold statement but I agree. 17 and I think it could be relatively drama free for Alabama fans.

I'm hoping that the new guys on the LSU O-line shite their pants when presented with complex stunts and blitz schemes.

How do y'all do it LSU could keep it close if they had negative passing yards. Damn it's nice having good defenses

Why? I'm not on the team. I'm sure that the coaching staff is putting the appropriate amount of focus on State.

Perfect time for Mett to get a few of those passes, that have been juuuust a bit too long, just right.

There were some close calls, but ultimately, I'm glad the Mad Hatter held out on his secret playbook until the bama game. Should make things more interesting. What did surprise me though was when he gave Florida the game, because he knew Florida would beat USCe and that he would play them again in the SECCG. That way, when his LSU Tigers beat them, they would look much improved, vaulting them in the polls into the #1 spot.

Mett being pretty green is also going to be a big hurdle for LSU because of the confusion Alabama's defense causes.

So LSU match-up better last year as a power run team with a good defense against a power run team with a good defense than they do this year as a power run team with a good defense against a power run team with a good defense?

You claim the match-up is horrible, but in the same post bring up strength vs strength (LSU RBs vs 'Bama's D).

tl;dr this year is the same as the past. LSU is still a power run team with a great D and Alabama is too.

I expect lots and lots of blitzing, meaning met will be deer in headlights when the scripted plays are up

Do you expect people who know a little bit about football to think you actually know what you're talking about?

Blitzing is only necessary if Mett proves he can complete passes against base D. Once that happens, the coverage schemes will call for the Dog.

Same as Chief Saturday. We switched to the 3 down lineman look after running base on 2 straight possessions. Midway through the 3rd possession, we went to the 3 man line, with 2 LB's and 6 DB's, only we sent DB's routinely off the edge and varied it up. We got great run support at the 2nd level from the Safeties and the Linebackers cleaned up the holes in the middle.

There's absolutely zero reason to blitz from jump street other than perhaps a token fire zone at first. No reason to show your hand that often.
