I don't make a decision against fundamental football wisdom based on a small sample space like that.

Kinda like baseball, you have to assume that a stat like that is begging to be corrected in your favor. Why you don't automatically bench a batter after a couple of 0-4 games.

I don't mind the call either. The corner made a play that is probably made 1 out of 50 times for an interception. They took a shot and if its incomplete you have three more times to run Marshawn. If its a completion then you win the game. If you throw a pick then it was a bad throw (it wasn't) or a defensive player makes one hell of a play on the biggest stage in sports. The latter happened so Carrol is an idiot today.

Very similar to the Georgia v. South Carolina call. If Hutson Mason does anything but what he did and not get an intentional grounding call then Gurley gets the rock 3 times to try and score. Worst case happened for both

Pete Carroll's arrogance. Saw the same arrogant shite from Spurrier when he passed his way to giving up a 21 point lead in the fourth quarter at UK last fall.

He scored once.

So, maybe not 9/10 times.

I had no problem with the play call. Just an amazing individual play by Butler, IMO.

This.

Seattle called many risky plays throughout the game, they all worked but the last one.

They had just ran Marshawn on first down. Im sure Pats were expecting another run, and Pete thought he could catch the defense off-guard. 9 times out of 10 a pass on the 1 yard line is either incomplete or caught for a TD. If either of those scenarios happen, he is left with two plays and one time out.

I pretty much agree with you especially after I've seen the play and both teams formations diagrammed multiple times by ESPN.It was the correct call for the formations that NE and Seattle had lined up in.Butler jumped the pass and made a great play.

But don't try explaining it to the mouth breathers around here.

I didn't see anything wrong with the call. The Pat defense was set up to stop the run. Sneaky pete had three downs and a timeout left. He made the correct call based on the defense. The execution was horrible and Wilson and the WR should be called out for it. Worse case, throw the ball ten rows up and then run twice.

Everyone is riding Sneaky Pete when they should be riding the two players.

Yes, all the Howard Cosell's in here that had the benefit of judging after the fact disagree. That's why they are turning down HC jobs today and Pete is unemployed.

And ML was stuffed five times this year at the one. But who can be smarter than these brilliant minds.

I was thinking read option ... Wilson likely would have walked into the end zone.

The Pats had an extra corner in expecting that pass. They had seen Seattle do it in their private practice.

I actually agree that throwing on 2nd down wasn't that bad of a decision, given they had only one TO remaining... if you run on 2nd down and not get in, you're burning the timeout and really limit yourself on third down.

The actual play call could've been better tho... a slant route in to traffic wasn't ideal... but whatever.

why I don't think it was the worst call in all of football like Collinsworth made out, I do think it was just not smart.

A) you had timeouts
b) you don't want to give it to Brady with even 20 seconds left.
c) no percent chance that Lynch doesn't score, he was ripping them

d) your QB is a midget, he cant make the throw low and in like it needed to be

Even Pete Carrol doesn't agree with the call.

Huh?If you give it to Lynch and he scores you maybe use up a couple of more seconds if at all.

You DO know he was 1 for 5 scoring from the 1 yard line this year, correct? And the Pats defense was stacked against the run for that particular play.

d) your QB is a midget, he cant make the throw low and in like it needed to be

He's made those throws like that pretty much the whole year...the play is a staple in the Seahawks offense.

Was it a great call? Not really, but I really don't think it was anything out of the ordinary especially with the Pats defensive formation.

Rushes take more time off clock, not that hard. If he was stoned, it forces a NE timeout at the very least.

1 for 5? I don't give a shite. That D, in the 4th, in the Super Bowl with three plays to burn, with timeouts....what's was his success rate then? Right.

Locally, Malcolm Butler's pick is no big deal. Kinda ho-hum. Front page of this evening's paper:
