AU actually won a few games last year where a TD strike was required by Marshall to win it. He made clutch plays with his arms when needed.

Auburn only faced two notable opponents where this occurred. Georgia and Alabama's secondaries took a major step back from 2012. The Prayer in Jordan Hare was a poorly defended play. The touchdown to Sammie Coates in the Iron Bowl was as easy as they come.

How many Auburn games did you watch? He hit a clutch pass on third down against A&M, the game winning pass against MSU. Do you just write those off because they weren't "notable opponents"?

I watched parts of the Mississippi State, A&M, and Georgia games. I watched the entire Iron Bowl. Mississippi State isn't notable. Texas A&M's defense was absolute crap. Bragging about him hitting major passes against them is like LSU fans bragging about Jennings' comeback drive and touchdown toss. Nick Marshall isn't the worst, but this year he'll either shut up the doubters or be exposed. I won't make a prediction.

When Marshall first started playing it was evident that he had a cannon for an arm but it was probably too much power at times. I think he did pretty good passing. He balls dropped at the worst time, IB early in the 1st he had a long TD dropped by Ricardo Louis.

Anyways, this to me was a great play, 10 seconds left down by 3...

Down by 4 in the BCS NCG with less than 4 minutes left he "marshalled" this 15 yard pass play on 3rd and 11 against the #1 pass defense in CFB in 2013 (albeit skewed because it was an "SEC" team playing in the ACC)...

Later in the same drive

Then Tre Mason trucked a FSU safety and ran it in for the go ahead score, then Auburn's 14th in the SEC pass defense showed why they were 14th in the SEC.

Marshall and the offense did it's part when it mattered on the biggest stage at the biggest time. I think he's a legit Heisman contender. Actually, another year on campus and with so many returning, plus Gus, plus the RB trio, I say, he wins it all on the way to 15-0...

Got no individual interest in this...UF didn't play AU last year or will this year...at least during regular season.

Mason was a big part of AUs offense and quite frankly Marshall is not adept at throwing. But Marshall is lightning quick and can stretch defenses or "spread" them out with his speed to the outside...very impressive speed.

AU will be in trouble if they face too many third and longs, as would most teams even with good passing attacks. I suspect their offense under Malzahn will be potent and I have them penciled in as winners of the west this year. The west is somewhat down, LSU, Bama are at least a year or two away from re establishing themselves at the top.

I firmly believe that the east will be stronger somewhat with UF & USC as front runners. Don't laugh about UF because you will see what things quite differently by October.

You don't have to possess a qb who is the mad bomber to win...in fact, just the opposite. Running the ball is all important and ditto stopping the run. AU will run well enough.

Marshall is almost never in a situation where he ACTUALLY had to pass the ball.

I can think of 3 games where he had to make throws to win the game in crunch time.
