Cavaliers name didn't' come from either war. It refers to the English planters that founded and built the state.

Tar Heels came from Revolutionary war and referred to many poor soldiers lack of shoes and their unwillingness to give up any ground on the field of battle - "God bless them Tar Heel boys"

Thanks, but I didn't join the rant to debate politics. Came here to save my sanity in this place, from this upside down world we currently reside in.

What sport i love is in my bio, as for my team, I'm still on the fence on whether it will be more interesting or not to disclose that info.

And you came to the Rant?

If you do not want to disclose a team yet that is cool but at least cough up your 3 favorite college sports.

Dorchester makes some solid points. Truth be told, if you were starting from scratch, you could take the 10 teams in Va, NC, SC, Ga and north Fla. and you could have a very tight, powerful conference.

Yes. Debating sports over politics will probably save my sanity. Maybe ya'll will prove me wrong. We'll see I guess.

As for my three favorite sports. The big three. I'm a traditionalist I suppose.

I say we get a team from N. Carolina and Virginia. Move the Conference Office to Richmond and rename the SEC the Stonewall Conference!!

From UNC's website:

quote:

A group of North Carolina soldiers scolded their comrades for leaving the battlefield when things got tough. The soldiers threatened to stick tar on the heels of the retreating soldiers to help them stay in the battle. General Robert E. Lee is said to have commented “God bless the Tar Heel boys!” Whatever the reason for the moniker, our students and sports teams have long worn it with pride.

maybe it`s just a pride thing but i don`t want schools that have to be convinced or bribed to join the league that`s why i loved the Texas A&M addition. Their fans were so excited to be in and though i know most don`t want West Virginia the SEC was where they wanted to be. Florida State was asked once they said no, they should never be asked again, as far as UNC and UVA they might come but it would be grudgingly so let em stay.

For the best TV grab in each state UNC far outweighs any other school

It really does not matter, the dollars have nothing to do with the popularity of the school. The sec gets 1.40 ish for every tv set in the state whether it is UNC or NC State same for VA UVA and VA tech bring the exact same amount of cash. Other than pride it matter not which school you get.

I can understand this.... WVU really wanted to join the SEC, and at the time I wanted WVU too. They would've been a good and even addition. Even though I've more than grown accustomed to Mizzou, personally WVU would've fit in more culturally.

I want NC STATE & VTECH. My guess is that we still try and grab Oklahoma first though.

Nope
- Small market state
- not AAU
- would need massive funds to upgrade to SEC sponsored sports
- couch burning started here
- no Big 3 wins I am aware of {MNC or NCAA or CWS}

ACC took Cards but passed on WVU, that says much of what needs to be said.
