Which every school sans Vanderbilt in the SEC does, so shouldn't all of them have a billion kids on the list?

Back in the day, Vandy funneled their less "scholarly" athletes to Peabody where their work was accepted at Vandy...is that still the case?

Back in the day, AU would have their players in Education and Bama would have theirs in Communication. But during that period, athletes spent unlimited time at practice or at conditioning and had very little academic support. Again, with the support and restrictions in place today, the Honor Roll is a .

Are you actually saying that making Academic Honor Roll in the SEC isn't anything special?

No, I'm saying the schools are using it more to honor their system , then to honor the individual. Take a look at the number of student/athletes that do not make it. We hear about the NCAA preventing the Athletes from receiving extra benefits that the normal student gets. Then they praise the Schools for providing support to athletes that the normal student doesn't get. This is just another tool for recruiting and PR. Im actually surprised that the numbers are so low.

Watch the PSAs at any SEC Game on TV. Why do you think schools are spending so much money on Academic Centers. It has become a recruiting tool.

Since a lot of these guys would never be accepted into these colleges unless they were athletes (a 2.3 HS GPA? Seriously?), either they are getting a LOT of academic "support", or the academic standards of their courses are not very high.

This is NOT a slam at Alabama, because it applies equally to Auburn and every other major school.

At least the kids on the honor roll are working enough to get a reasonable facsimile of an education. Good for them.

That is kind of my thought on it. I don't think it shows much about the quality of their education necessarily, but I think to get to a level to be on this list you at least have to care enough about whatever you are doing academically to be better than "least amount required", which is good.

This is awesome. Tuscaloosa post Alabama related threads and he's got nothing in his life besides Alabama football. He post threads about other teams and hes obsessed. People just don't like them because they are typically well put together and make Alabama look good while making other schools look not as good.

Keep on rocking in the free world Tuscaloosa. You're doing gods work.

HES is a hodgepodge of majors. It includes the "can't get into the business school business majors" like "Personal Finance" and it also includes all Nutrtion and all the "family planning" type majors.

Basically, it is like a big ole "COME TO ME" sign for athletes.

Same for me at UNA and UAB. I hate myself enough that I got a Business degree AND an Accounting degree from two different institutions.

Because that would take time away from posting something negative about Alabama?
