I don't think anyone knows what a combat controller is but they are one of the few bad arse groups of men in the AF.

If I'm not mistaken, I had a class with him my sophomore year at Alabama. Very sad. RIP Mark.

These guys are badass, when I was in Korea eons ago, we had a couple come teach some of us some of the basics of forward air control(was a blast talking to the jet boys up there:). We were up on a knoll waiting for them to come riding up the pass to reach us. No, these guys came viva plane and jumped to us. They impressed a bunch of gunts that day

Prayers to his friends, family, comrades and the UA family. Lot of good SEC boys serving over there. I know I have seen pictures of soldiers representing all 12 SEC institutions in the combat zones. I graduated with a guy from AU who left the day we graduated to meet his USMC Reserve unit and ship to Iraq.
Too many wonderful intelligent young men have come home in those boxes. But thank God we have them willing to put their lives on the line to do it.

Mark was the brother-in-law of a good friend of mine.

This is absolutely true. These guys go through a lot to get that job. It sucks to see people with the perfect combination of desire and talent for serving in these positions go out. It seems like we (I) always talk about how such and such ball player made a great play, or has such a talent for something, I wish people could see stuff like what this guy did for a living on a highlight reel. Its more than talent...It might even make football a little less interesting.
RIP Brother.
