Take away the Cam year and the kick 6 year and they are middle level SEC team, Mississippi State or lower.
The fact that Bama has the success it has effected their view of their place in college football. 7-4. 6-6 at their best.

Imagine if Texas A&M had nationally relevant team success in recent, or even just modern times. Now imagine if instead of a fake homoerotic army the A&M campus was crawling with dime-piece sorority girls in sun dresses, and beautiful female cheerleaders in the sideline instead of gay milkmen.

These quotes and facts show the pure education of Alabama fans and how they portray their football team. We understand that Auburn is obviously not the powerhouse of the state, but at least the fanbase has at least a lick of knowledge. Whenever Saban retires, then you guys are doomed.

They are a solid program historically, but haven't reached that elite level we all desire. Their very strong seasons have been sporadic, and surrounded by average/mediocre seasons. They are frustrated by that inability to be consistently good. That's what it boils down to really. Has some, but not much, to do with comparisons to others.

It just seems that way b/c every coach we've had in the past 60+ years has had some level of success.
Bama has won SEC titles in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s. They've won national titles in the 60s, 70s, 90s, 00s, and 10s.
I think the whole "they're only good b/c Saban and when Saban retires they'll suck" narrative is wishful thinking combined with selective memory of the past. Bama was elite before Saban. He took them back to levels they'd not seen in several years, but in the 8 years before Saban Bama had 3 10 win seasons with 3 different coaches.
I'm still waiting for AU to bump back to back 10 win seasons together. A healthy percentage of the AU fan base has NEVER seen their team do that.

To go along with the insecurity there is lots of delusion. They really are the greatest. There are many conspiracy theories as to why they are not consistent. Coach Bryant, REC, Refs, Coach Saban....It is always about "if only" and wait til next year. When they do have a voodoo victory, i.e. "Punt Bama Punt." "Camback," "Kick 6" they hold on to the moment forever, especially when those type of games are followed by arse kickings....and they generally are.
