Pretty much sums it up.

As others have pointed out, Bama's best defenses of the Saban era were 2009-2011.

Those also happen to be the years when Kevin Steele and Lance Thompson were coaching elsewhere. The next two or three years will tell if that was coincidental or not.

I don't think any hire would have been an upgrade from Chavis. Of course no one knows what really happened, but in my opinion, if they didn't want to give Chief what he wanted to stay at LSU, they wouldn't have upped their offer for anyone else. That being said, I think Chavis is past his prime. He has not fielded an elite defense for LSU since 2011/2012. He will no doubt make a huge improvement to aTm's defense though.

. Combine his recruiting strengths with Coach O and Les Miles on the same staff - all recruiting in the loaded state of Louisiana - and LSU will no doubt be absolutely STACKED for years to come.
Throw in Frank Wilson and LSU is a recruiting monster. Now will the staff be able to do anything with all of the potential talent coming in?

First of all, don't agree on the coaching. He had top 30 defenses in 3 of his 4 seasons as a DC. His position coaching at LB appears no more suspect than Chief's when you look at the record against mobil QB's. 2nd, the como hire with Ed OH makes this a serious upgrade when you factor in both are former national recruiters of the year.

Below average coach, was a great recruiter, still very good, but no longer great. You just downgraded from Chavis in coaching and scheming. You basically hired a recruiter to run your defense.

I honestly think Vandy's defensive coordinator (whoever that is) could improve aTm's defense.

These are exactly my thoughts. Alabama has made 2 "addition by subtraction" moves the last two days.

The Vandy head coach fired the d coordinator and is now coaching their defense.

your head coach disagrees with you. He said steele is the best teacher, coach,
recruiter and organizer he has every been around and he has been around a lot.

Northalabamacracker... Your post are the best. Anti-LSU at the best. Every post you make is bashing LSU

It really is disturbing how much he hates LSU.

oh yeah and what is it you do for a living? because anyone who has coached with him says he is a great teacher and coach. That inludes your head coach. But wait I'm sure you know more because you stayed at a Holiday Inn.

How many is that, 1? I know of nobody in BR that thought he was a good DC and I am from there

When I think of Steele, this is all I'm going to see:

It's the perfect marriage for Miles.

We've been on Gilligan's Island this entire time.

It all makes a shitton more sense now.

I think most were anticipating him moving back into the DC role once Kirby found a head coaching gig

I was told this a couple weeks ago by some former LSU players (under Saban) who are now in the coaching business.

He's a great recruiter and contributed a lot to Alabama's success. He'll be good at LSU
