Anytime a magazine comes out with a ranking like this, the inverse is actually true.
But I'm totally happy with them pretending Alabama is terrible. We finally got our state government under some semblance of control. I don't want liberals moving here and messing it up.

You can't back up any of your statements with any factual evidence. It's all wrong.
What should be required is for you to present some level of evidence before making such baseless claims, but you can't which is why you are deflecting now.

OK let's go into detail.
First,yeah, for the longest time the Democratic party was the more right wing, populist party of the two majors, holding views diametrically opposed to the mercantilist whigs or the industrialist Republicans. Anti-tariff, pro-slavery, pro-segregation etc.
The shift to the left came in two waves, first with Wilson, then with FDR and his New Deal coalition. The New Deal coalition was unique in that the suggestion of more government intervention was almost universally agreed upon by several factions with differing social views, and had the benefit of pulling black voters away from the Republican party, which the weight of their vote had been directed toward since Reconstruction. The factions agreed upon little else.
Then the push for civil rights happened.
In the 60s, the Republicans learned of these cracks in the so called "solid south" during the election of '64, when Goldwater did the unthinkable and won several states for the Republicans in the south with a campaign almost exclusively against the CRA. The party at large took notice of this, pruned the liberal Rs from their ranks and birthed the "southern strategy."
As for the Democrats, well, the defections in their ranks speak for themselves, Thurmond probably being the most notable example, the "Dixiecrats" being another.

Ok??? Let's take Louisiana for example. New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport (where almost all the bad statistics come from) are, and have been, Democrat forever. Louisiana has had a Democrat Governor 50%+ over the past 50 years or so.
So....... let's not make the extremely ignorant statement that problems in this state are because of republican issues.

You claimed the Civil Rights Act, which only passed because of Republicans over the universal opposition of southern Democrats (including an impassioned filibuster led by liberal icon Robert Byrd), pushed southerners to Republicans because...racism? It's so stupid that it doesn't require any challenge. It's clearly, historically, false. Anyone claiming otherwise should be immediately discounted.

They must have left out “weather” as a factor. I live in Arizona and have transplant neighbors from Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey and Canada. Seems most people think it’s a pretty good place to live.

It was a culmination of several factors, but the CRA was the straw that broke the camel's back. It was an effective wedge and very much the basis of the GOP's southern strategy that followed the CRA's passage.
Republicans can't claim sole responsibility. Yes, southern democrats opposed the CRA, but the law was introduced and pushed through via democratic control in both legislative bodies, and signed by a democratic president. And yes, a larger percentage of republicans voted for the bills. So what did the southern wing of the democratic party, the Dixiecrats, do when they were overruled? The voters effectively switched loyalty to the party that chose to cater to them via the southern strategy. Some legislators, like Byrd, reformed. Most, like Thurmond, switched parties entirely. This is why the south has been solidly republican since then.
