Can probably thank Bruce Pearl for this. Hopefully Bama gets a good coach with a big personality. Could make the basketball rivalry actually interesting with AU

He was rumored to be coming back until Auburn's success in the SEC Tournament. I think we all know he was fired because of Auburn's bright future.

When you are on the brink of being fired and coming under pressure and your rival wins 3 straight games as an underdog and has huge momentum, you better believe it has an effect.

Probably did. No one will ever know how much of an effect. I think the outcry from Boosters/fans about the rumor he may stay kinda forced Battles hand.
