It definitely does. Takes several months for the seams to grow together.

Where it was coming up in huge divots was on the seams - like how a rug with nothing under it will slide up on a wood floor if you start running on it.

Have you really never put new sod in your yard, re-sodded or purchased a new house that had just been sodded?

I forget how young this board is and that y'all aren't homeowners.

Anyways, anyone with a lick of sense and experience with a lawn could have told them this was a MASSIVELY dumb idea. They laid sod in the hottest month of the year, when grass tends to go dormant to survive the heat, then over-watered it to green it up, which discourages root growth, and over nitrogen'd it to green it, which does the same. Even if the heat, watering, and minerals were different though, it still wouldn't matter, because I've never heard of grass that seams-up in a month.

They should've put down field turf for this season.

To address another question I saw, I'm all but certain it is Tifway 419. That's what was there before. That's a type of bermuda.

Heard that as well from inside sources. Also helped that they sacrificed their jars to the rain gods in order to get some rain.

Modern fields should be able to handle a little rain. Does anyone know what kind of sod they used and when they laid it?

Meh. If anything the problem A&M had was hubris. We have some of the most elite grass specialists in the world at our school and I think we were too proud to put down field turf for a year as a temporary. The grass field A&M put down in '95 actually was the model for a lot of other schools. Absolutely bullet proof as it was able to set properly. The '97 season it rained for every home game including a ridiculous storm for the Texas game that knocked out the TV signal for most of the game and yet the players had no mud on their unis and there were no puddles to be found.

Problem is that it simply isn't possible to put in new grass and not be vulnerable to rain in such a short time frame no matter how good your soil engineers are. Personally I would prefer us to go to field turf until 2016 when it can have a full offseason to regrow. A spread team like ours actually is better suited to field turf anyway. I think pride will prevent it though.

Best thing to happen to LSU is having Bayou Country Superfest replace the field every year. In the past, one rain game and LSU field would be terrible the rest of the season

Agreed. Kyle Field can't be non-grass or we lose the magic!!!

The field at the NC game in the rose bowl was played on turf that was layed 6 days earlier.

Last paragraph:
quote:

The field will be down for just the 2014 season. By 6:00 p.m. the day after the Thanksgiving game against LSU, it is set to be gone so construction can continue at the redeveloping Kyle. Whether the grass that comes in for 2015 is also Bermuda is a question that still remains. With a newly-enclosed stadium and a much lower playing surface, a number of key factors have changed, like wind and shading. Goertz said if this grass reacts well, Bermuda could be back, but officials are looking at other varieties. What is not in question, he says, is that it will be real grass.

I am new to posting on here (longtime lurker) but I must say:

you sir, are an idiot and a piece of trash!

Your (implied) weak reference to bonfire makes me sick.

It couldn't be the fact that we got an estimated 4-7 inches of rain Friday night and into Saturday morning. This coupled with the fact that the grass has not fully taken root yet. We had no issue the week before when we played Lamar.

PUF for the win.

Let's just say that while I'm not happy about certain parts of our 1876 state constitution, they certainly got a large part of the funding right for our 2 systems.
