He may very well end up getting fired this year or next, but to this point, he has never lost the team the way Chizik did.

Not even close.

Wait, are we supposed to hate you guys today? frick!

Still, I don't think Chiz even drove to the stadium his last year.

IMO Gus is much better . Gus was a big reason why Chiz did well and Chiz had Cam and Gus had the cancer we all know of as Will Muschamp.

Returning tackles has always been a retarded stat. As a matter of fact, total tackles period is a misleading stat. Defenses that get off the field with lots of 3 and outs aren't going to have as many tackles. UK, VU, etc linebackers leading the conference in tackles doesn't mean they're the best linebackers..... it means they were on the field all day.

Barring injury, this year's defense will be an improvement.

Why? I'm not trolling. I am curious. I realize you get Lawson back...but you got Lawson back last year, too. You got a worse DC and lost half your defense? (Is that correct?) If that is correct, why do you think your defense will be better?

Why do bama fans want Malzahn to be fired so bad? Are they threatened by him because his Offense gives them fits?
please do not fire Gus..he should be able to serve-out his contract..it is only fair

Low point of the season (because of John L Smith)!

I'm legitimately curious too.

On paper, it appears your defense got far worse. Lawson is back and is a great player.

However you severely downgraded the DC role, lost over half of your starters and lots of seniors, and lost well over half your production.

Why do you believe the defense should improve?

You are an LSU fan and saw that game last year. How could it possibly get any worse?

That was their worst game though most likely and their offense didn't help them out. They kind of just quit that day.

Honestly though, they can get worse.

Conference Rankings:

11th/14 in Scoring Defense
13th/14 in Total Defense
11th/14 in Passing Defense (and lost most of secondary and hired the coach who took LSUs top 5 nationally ranked passing D with same players and made it fricking awful)
11th/14 in Rushing Defense

So they have some room to get worse...not much, but its there. Maybe the offense will be much improved and that will give the defense some breaks. Its just hard to imagine a team getting better after getting a much worse DC and losing most of their production/starters.

That's why I'm curious why they think they'll improve.

That was a fluke. I mean, seriously. Your defense made improvements last year. I also realize you have recruited well at positions of need....but I'm thinking your defense might need another year or two before showing a lot of improvement. And that's if Steele is better than he has shown of late.

Hard to not be better. Defense started improving towards the end of last year in two main areas, secondary and DLine. Those two areas should be even better this year. From all accounts, DL has been very good so far in camp. Secondary returns a lot of experience, and if we can get solid play from our 2nd and 3rd corner, it can be a respectable unit.

We lost our LB production, but towards the end of the year, one was playing more DL anyways. LB production was one area that didn't really get better throughout the year, and was pretty poor most of the year. Athletically, LB's will be much better this year than last year, so that's a positive. We'll see how they perform though.

So, overall, considering there isn't much room for that defense to go but up, they should be better this year than last.

Well Chizik hadn't lost the team after 3 years either.

Year 4 of Malzahn still hasn't occurred yet. Who says he won't lose the team like Chizik did in year 4?

Agree with you that Muschamp as head coach is a massive cancer. But as a DC he's been pretty excellent. Except for his year under Gus Malzahn.

You didn't watch AU last year. It took 6 games to get the Ellis Johnson coaching out it the Ds system. At the end of the year AUs D was average or better. If Muschamp would have stuck around another year, they could have been elite.

Malzahn is better coach than Chizik.

Malzahn is also a terrible coach.

You can do the math.
