Dale, in your opinion since you are owning this thread, can we feel safe that testing would have found any of this idiot's potential mistakes?

On a job like this you are dealing with a company that only does jobs like this, sure they may pick up local "general laborers", which is sounds like this guy was, and pay them $20 so an hour for their back, but they are not going to touch anything important, if its heavy they are man handling the shite out of it.

Anything important like joint welds are going to be handled by someone certified who takes pride in their work and is payed in the $50/hr range, their work, or the critical work they do, is checked via x-ray and visual inspections by a 3rd party.

If this guy did weld anything it was probably nothing important like holding rebar in place until concrete is poured and formed. If it was an important weld, the inspection process should find it and its as simple as grinding it down and going back over it or another repair process like adding a reinforcement plate to the area.

The bolts isn't a huge deal as they are there to allow flex, basically, anything bolted will having something near it for reinforcement at some point before the project is complete.

Basically this guy is a moron and fricked up a decent job making decent money over a game.

Thanks Dale, I appreciate the depth of your explanation.

I feel better now. I know it got tested but I am sure someone said something similar about that Allen stadium.

University of Alabama flag on the stadium said on Facebook he sabotaged the stadium, according to an article from mysanantonio.com. In a post from Feb. 28, Bobby Livingston wrote, "This stadium will never be ready for this. Season,I'm putting iron in backwards and wrong holing everything!!"

This is perfect and spot on.

Backwards rebar? lulz

Is that like riser grease and canopy lights? A pipe knot slip wrench perhaps?

No problem.

Like I said, these projects cost way more than the actual cost to build them, or they could all be built for way less.

The reason why it costs so much is only a few companies are trusted/qualified enough to do them and they pay their help very well for the type of work they are doing.

Because of the potential liability, actual engineers are used in the design process not just architects.

So one fricknut isn't going to be able to cause the thing to crumble down like a Jenga building by 1 or two welds failing, there are supports in place to catch a failure like that with supports to catch the supports failure, etc.

Its amusing he thought it would, what he put on social media not so. The bama flag was kinda amusing, would of been better of it was a UT flag or if he put a Texas state flag up upside down and waited to see how long it took someone to notice.

Yes, but welders on these jobs are not setting the beams they are welding, they are just welding, the cheaper labor is doing all the heavy lifting, so I have therefor question if he was actually welding.

This post plus your other posts in this thread lead me to believe you don't know much of anything about construction and erecting structural steel in particular.

You should stick to trolling.

Its like muffler bearings.

The wrong holed thing is amusing too because the material isn't drilled on site (normally) and drilled the same on both ends (normally). The only thing that can be installed "backwards" would be close to a triangle shape and one guy isn't going to set it in place by himself.

I have my suspicions as well, but I did my M.S.C.E. work in geotechnical and not structural.

So from this thread I've leaned that a lot of ranters have worked in construction. Interesting.

And there are zero Auburn fans who have ever committed murder. Congrats on having the one fan base that doesn't have a crazy in it.

Back to the OP. I deplore the actions of this individual. The flag thing was okay. Not something I would do, but I didn't see it as a big deal. Joking around about shoddy construction that could potentially endanger people is not.

Alabama is the most successful sports team of the past five years. If any other team had Bama's success, they would have the crazy fans as well. More crazies would join Auburn or LSU fan base if y'all actually won the title instead of playing for it and losing. Putting up with crazy fans is a small price to pay for watching this historic run.

I get a bigger kick out of the responses from the "high and mighty Auburn fans. No Auburn fan would EVER post football related threats on a social network (see the log truck driver on The Bunker that was plotting a vehicular assault on Trent Richardson a few years back or the death threats to Updyke's family who were not responsible for his actions) just as no Auburn fan would EVER dawn the doors of a Walmart (see the many glamorous redneck pics on Deadspin from AU's 2010 Walmart trophy tour). What do I need to debunk next? It's the same nonsense with Alabama fans as well...

The hypocrisy, delusion and endless finger-pointing among both of these hillbilly fanbases will forever amuse me.

Easy up there Ag. Most of the guys I have met, who actually graduated from Bama are alright.

I think there is something in the state wide Alabama (state, not school) psych profile that takes guys who have no real affiliation with higher education, the traditions of a particular school or the general appreciation for collegiate norms and makes them believe they should be able to impose their lack of maturity, social graces, self control and intelligence on the rest of the world, in the name of the University of Alabama.

Personally, I think the problem is with the schools cheer of "Roll Tide". It is easy to spell, they see it every time they go to shop on jugs of detergent, it only has two syllables, and the "R" at the beginning makes it easier for them to enunciate when they are way over the legal limit to drive….. or walk.

The poor University, cursed with an advertising limerick with the unintended consequence of attracting those with little or no self control to their banner.

Dale, completely different topic, drove by Mclane Stadium for the first time a couple of nights ago. What a beautiful set up.

Congrats to Baylor for pulling that off. Very, very impressive.
