Everyone but Matthews has a lot of experience. Everett was the one who caught the game-winning interception last year.

Everett, Harris and Matthews all started at least 7 games and Raven played around half of our defensive snaps as the #1 backup at safety.

I think you mean Raven. Matthews started every game from LSU on.

What's y'all's weak point on D?
we easily have the worst line backer corps of any ranked SEC team. and we really are probably one of the worst in the conference

dafuq? Raven barely played last year outside special teams and was a corner. He didn't even start playing fs til the cotton bowl practices and he didn't even play in that game.

Yep, our only saving grace is we should have one of the better secondaries once everyone is playing. Our depth is excellent back there with Hurd, Jacobs, Honeycutt (played surprisingly well IMO), etc.

According to the participation reports, Raven played a ton of snaps in at least five games last year.

Raven might be the best tackler on the team. He is not very bright, so it has taken him a while to learn the defense. They say he has it down now.

participation reports don't list snaps. They list games played. Raven was a gunner on the punt team and on kickoff coverage all year. I think he only got into 1 game (La Tech) in the secondary when the game wasn't already in hand and he played 2 plays in that game

I'll give A&M fans a rundown of our defense for the fairness of the thread.

Secondary is, and most likely, always will be our secondary. Even in our championship year 2 years ago, it was somewhat suspect. A lot of times, our corners and sometimes safety go in heavy run coverage. Defensive line, at least to me, seems above average and pretty solid. Not spectacular, but enough to win and win convincingly against your run of the mill opponent.

Linebackers are definitely where we excel. Plenty of play stuffers and speed. Don't have a decent speed rush yet. Probably more coverage oriented than anything. CJ Moseley is definitely the most complete tackler and player on the team. Look for him to be in the backfield or at least on some receivers a lot. If I'm wrong or forgot something, please correct me fellow fans (Bama ones in particular)

And people say the rant is shitty. This was the most productive thread I've seen on here in a while. This and the one about our Defense being fast have been great reads.

Loads of experience everywhere except free safety

Mastrogiovanni and Washington were far better than Sanders and Askew combined.
