IMO, the most incredible thing about that day was the Tiger Walk. AU has some great Tiger Walks, but NEVER one like the 1989 one. That thing was flat out dangerous and a near riot. Fans were too excited and on the edge of getting out of control.
The bama busses got rocked back and forth from the AU fans pressing in on them. There were maybe 50,000 in the streets three hours before the game in a heaving mass of humanity going beserk. A couple of AU players actually started hyperventilating getting through the Tiger Walk into the stadium. The excitement that day was truly epic. It had been building for many, many years.
I have my ticket stub framed as well as the program. Section 9, row 48, seat 11.

If I remember right it was there first because Auburn agreed to play the 91 game in Legion Field as the home team. Talk about weird. Seeing the AU logo at mid field of the old Iron Lady.
I was there that day, and I think in knew in my heart Bama didn't stand a chance. I knew it even more when Curry went for that fake field goal at the end of the half. It was an amazing day, even coming out on the losing end.

Bama was the better team in 1989. Probably the second best team in the country and AU was low top 10ish. But, you are right, bama had no real shot that day. AU won by 10 but the game was over by mid-third and I believe AU was up around 17 in the 4th before bama got a couple of late scores.

Watching this brings back so many memories. I love it.

Curry sucked as a coach. That 89 team Offense was too soft, smoke and mirrors. Beat UK by 12, Vandy by 6, Southwestern Louisiana by 7, Penn St. by 1 after blocking a chip FG on the last play of the game, and a bad MSU team by 13. I knew we were going to get beat at AU that year because Pat Dye had physical teams.

Best football game I've ever been to.

I'm enjoying it. I had this game on old vhs tape for a long time, but lost it probably 10 years ago and haven't seen this game in forever.
I'm enjoying the commentary between commercials as well. Glad they mentioned tiger walk. That really was the most memorable thing that day for me. I'm not kidding, there has never been a tiger walk like that one.
Also, check out the end of this game. The last few plays after AU kicked the final field goal, keep an eye on the top of the screen. You should see a rush/blur go back and forth at the top of the picture. It's AU students. A few thousand AU students went down on the field and ran back and forth up and down the sideline in a mob between the fence behind the bama bench and the stands for the final minute.

morons downvote that post? It was a legitimate question about a historical game.
Why would you assume it is Auburn fans downvoting you?
ETA: reading the thread pasts your post, I am way late

This was my first ever experience with shitty fans, and it wasn't event at the game. A couple hours after the game, I was with my dad running some errands in Irondale(Birmnigham), walking from our car to a a store in a mall. Some guys in a lifted truck drove by, saw me in my Alabama sweatshirt, cursed at me and threw shite at me (lettuce IIRC).
It really pissed my dad off and he's not even a football fan. I was young (not yet 13), and it didn't really upset me, but I will always remember the experience.
What really stands out in my memory isn't really the game itself or even the atmosphere. That was the first year I really started following Alabama football. Alabama entered that game undefeated and ranked fairly high (#2? I don't remember exactly), and nobody in my family was giving Auburn a shot. After three straight losses to Auburn, Alabama was finally gonna turn it around.
I do remember the final score, I think: 30-20. Alabama went on to be embarrassed by Miami (kinda like 2013 - undefeated, lose to Auburn, then lose in the bowl). Alabama won the next three Iron Bowls, but didn't have any success in Auburn itself. They lost again in 93, 95, and 97. It was crazy - it was like Jordan Hare had some mystique about it and Alabama just couldn't win there.

Bama had Cornelius Bennet, Derrick Thomas, then Keith McCants in the 80's one after the other.
Their linebackers have been impressive under Saban, but that trio all in a row with one replacing the other was incredible.

I know right? Really was weird.
I've never been to a game at an opponent's stadium, but I imagine far worse things happen at away games every week.
