I've always meant to ask you guys. I know bear said that they would never play in auburn, which is why 1989 was such a big deal. But my question is...after it was finally decideed to leave legion and go home/home...why did AU get the first one? Seems like with everyting involved, whenever it was decided to go to home fields that tuscaloosa would get it first.

Any insight?

Not too sure. This is first time I've ever been able to watch this game. Actually kinda pumped about it.

I was a Junior at that game and it was awesome. Not just the outcome, the atmosphere was great and was so long overdue.

Bama likes to say that Saban improved Auburn and in a way they're right. In the same way, Auburn built Bryant-Denny by playing this game in Auburn.

from what I've read about this game ther was also some sort of super shaker or something. Something about the pompoms yall used that is different than today that made a "mist" or something.

I'd love for some of the older AU fans to chime in and talk abot ujtha tgame who were there.

It was some sort of paper shaker. I've heard stories about it too. They said it just created an orange haze above the crowd from how hard they were shook.

I have heard that too regarding the pompoms.

ETA: the pompoms were paper and disintegrated into small fibers. It made a blue "dust" emit in the crowd.

looks like you're right, since you got 2 downvotes too lol. I guess 2 butt buddies are having a little fun.

I've always heard AU folks talk about this game as the #1 game in AU history that you just had to be at or you couldn't understand. Hopefully some posters can join in that were there and tell us about it.

I was there. With my dad and graddad. Loudest most electric game in the history of college football, not just the SEC. The camera that just showed the first extra point was shaking in that last shot they showed and you could barely hear the announcers when Joseph scored the td.

As to why the game was in AU, the 1988 game was a home game for bama and they got most of the tickets in 88. Also, AU played the 91 game at legion field as well as the 90 game as a concession. Dye called it throw the dog a bone.

As for the shakers, they gave out paper shakers to the fans coming in to the game. They were just regular shakers, same as all year. The mist that rose from the stadium happened before the game even started. The fans were shaking them that damn hard the paint coming off them formed a mist that drifted up and out of the stadium. Never seen anything like it before or since.

Also, I will say bama was well represented. They filled up the end zone and were the loudest I have ever heard from a visiting fan base.

Reasonable response, the fear is obvious.

I don't think you can ever reply without cussing or name calling.

To Answer the OP's question, the previous year Bama was "home" at Legion Field. Not that they were ever really not at home there the years before.

WG

Sometimes you can be pretty dumb. Do you really think Auburn fans are the only ones that can down vote a post?

of course not. I'm just curious why anyone would downvote my first post in the thread. Looking back now, it was probably anyone BUT auburn fans actually.
