Lone exception might be if you live in the general vicinity of Tallahassee or Huntsville. But yeah, aTm has become pretty much *the* A&M school nationally.

True.

It kinda hit me the other day when I was listening to sports talk radio being broadcast out of New York and one of the hosts referenced "A&M" in passing, with no real context whatsoever, but there was no doubt he meant TAMU. Just kinda made me wonder when that shift happened.
Growing up, I remember my dad always being pretty adamant about specifying "the A&M in TEXAS" when talking to folks out of state.

Sirius regularly calls us solely "A&M".
I like that it's become synonymous for for our school.

You guys should pull an Ohio State (former A&M school) and start calling yourselves "The A&M".

50 states and only 3 of them have an A&M
Why
Auburn was actually the 1st Alabama A&M. They changed their name from the East Alabama Male College to the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama in 1872.

So you're saying that A&M and Gay have been intertwined since the very first instance...

Baton Rouge has two.
LSU and A&M and Southern U and A&M are the technical full names.

State was originally A&M College and later changed to ASU.
Not sure about this since UA-Monticello was originally known as Arkansas A&M.

It is pretty crazy how there used to be so many A&M's, but now even on the national airwaves, if someone says "A&M," you know they mean Texas A&M.
I never really thought about it that way.
Also, for those who don't know, most sports teams from A&M schools back in the day were referred to as the "Your school's name here" Aggies as it is the diminutive form of the word Agricultural.
So because of this, the papers would list teams as the Texas Aggies, Colorado Aggies, New Mexico Aggies, Utah Aggies etc.
This is why many of our songs and old uniforms say Texas Aggies instead of Texas A&M Aggies.

While that is the case right now, it won't be for much longer. LSU has been shifting to business for the last decade and is planning on dropping the A&M part of the name soon.
