A few A&M designated schools have changed their name, I believe. I know Colorado State was originally Colorado A&M.

Isn't the 3 states Texas, Alabama, and Florida?

Correct with 2 of them being historically black universities

10 within A&M's system have A&M.

Mississippi State was also originally Mississippi A&M

Looks like Arkansas State was originally A&M College and later changed to ASU.

Okie St was A&M too. Most changed it. We didn't. We were proud of who we were. Now it basically our brand that distinguishes us.

Really? You didn't finish the thought with "...and one being a historically gay university"?
This sort of oversight is the reason why TAMU posters are overtaking Arkansas posters as the best LSU trollers on the board.

Uh oh, I guess we can add Louisiana in there

If someone says A&M, you think...
If someone says State, you think one of or multiples of...

A good number of former A&M's (or A&x's) became < state > State University.
In addition to some of the ones already listed, here are a few more:
Alcorn State
New Mexico State
Tennessee State (A&I)
even The Ohio State University (LINK )
Prairie View A&M has a very colorful history of renaming that included being a "State" for a time: LINK /

My LSU degree says Agricultural and mechanical college. My dissertation was on the 21st century economic impact of Justin Morrills legislation to copy Michigan State nationwide.
Hint: it's huge.

It is pretty crazy how there used to be so many A&M's, but now even on the national airwaves, if someone says "A&M," you know they mean Texas A&M.
