A roster on the university’s Web site lists 121 players, 41 of whom have been arrested, either in college or afterward, and sometimes both.

That's a third of the team, including walk ons and all.

The rest of that graph:

That number included 16 players on that season’s final two-deep roster, nine of whom were starters, as well as a kicker, punter and returner. Several of those players went on to the N.F.L., and one, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, later won the Heisman Trophy playing for Auburn.

When Urban cried after his first loss to LSU I knew we had a different level of pathological narcissist here. He is EASILY (with apologies to Lane Kiffen) the most low character coach in CFB.

What he did at UF is beyond defensible. But expect Herbie and ESPN to brush this away within a week, completely forget the principles of INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL and THE CULTURE OF A PROGRAM, and begin the Rehabilitation of his reputation.

This ends very poorly for Ohio State, and the Football Establishment will act surprised then too.

I agree but he'll probably win 5 straight Big Ten titles and maybe even an NC or two before that time.

Only 41/85 scholarship players, not even half.

That's not including all of the arrests that were swept under the rug. Easily the thuggest team in the history of the NCAA.

Yes but the problem is who is getting called out by you guys ? Urban Myers , who hasent been the Florida coach in 3 years.

If a newspaper is going to throw somethihng out there , tell the whole story , if 10 of the arrest were players that were walkons that never played a down wouldn't that be something we need to know ?How many of the 41 were public drunkenness ?

How many players from your team in 06 have been arrested. Walkons and all , public drunkenness etc etc ?

I knew it was a silly hit job to start with, evidently you didn't, How many got arrested from the 08 team after Myers left in 2010 ? If you are going to tell the story , tell all the DAMN story or its hack journalism.

And I can't stand Myers but I detest hack journalism and simpletons who believe it worse.

In journalism, its called deception by omission.

If you randomly picked 121 posters on this site who attended college in 2008, I guarantee you at least 41 have been arrested at some point in their lives.

The point of the story is that Urban Meyer doesn't care about integrity or character. He recruited and probably continues to recruit shady individuals.

This has been known, in fact, for quite some time. The NYT just put some numbers to it.

You going to try to argue the opposite? Didn't think so. Quit your whining.

Yeah well in psychology, what you are doing is called "motivated reasoning." Look it up if you have to.

Pretty much. Dude is trying to argue that the NYT is portraying a hill of shite as a mountain of shite. Either way you have a big pile of shite.

Urban Meyer: Florida did not enable Hernandez

quote:

On Hernandez’s legal issues while playing for the Gators:Relatively speaking, he had very minor stuff. He was questioned about being a witness [to a shooting], and he had an argument in a restaurant [The Swamp, where he threw a punch as a juvenile], and he was suspended one game [for failing a drug test]. Other than that, he was three years a good player. That was it.

Did he really say, "relatively speaking ... he had very minor stuff?"

This falls at Urban's feet. It was his program, his players, he established the culture of the place. There was a reason Muschamp HAD to clean house, and toss out the Janorris Jenkins of the world.

It was exhausting keeping up with the arrest logs. It was a source of constant amusement how his players would regain eligibility just in time for the big game. It was fun to watch Urban defend the indefensible, week after week, and get away with it because he had a choir boy in Tim Tebow to hug on tv.

There was something rotten in the culture and that starts at the top. From walk-on to All American, the one constant was that these guys were getting arrested with twisted reliability.

Urban went through the motions-he talked the talk-and nothing more. He didn't give a shite, his press was fawning, Tebow provided cover, so he rode it out as long as his pitiful character allowed.

frick that guy. And frick Ohio State for giving him refuge. I don't doubt he wins a BCS title just as I know that will be repudiated by violations revealed years later. Character is destiny-and with Urban Cryer that Hall of Fame Douchebag expression on his face tells you everything you need to know.

If there was a All Time Fulmer Cup Champion, UF and UGA would be the top 2.

From the 2008 LSU roster I count 7 arrests in the ensuing years.
I'll triple that to a shameful 21 just for shits and giggles.
Then I'll double that.
And I've got UF beat by one.
