In a way you're right. The SEC would benefit most if the NCAA went to an 8 team playoff. But an 8 team playoff would render the regular season less meaningful - and that's what makes college football so special: Every game of the regular season matters.

4 Team Playoffs keep all regular season games relevant.

I was fine with the BCS, but the thing I absolutely hate with the playoff is the selection committee. We've basically taken the vote from the many and given it to a select few, and some of them probably know less about football then the average fan.

I wish I could give this a thousand up votes.

Who actually thought this would be a good idea?

My Dad once told me "Son, the world is full of dumbasses".
The BCS should have remained in place to pick the final four.

At what point does the sec protest this? How is it fair that Florida state and ohio state can pretty much lock themselves into the playoffs with an easy schedule, while the sec only sends 1 even though they have all the best teams. This is bull shite

That is a lie. ACC is going to be the first conference left out most years and will be the first 1 loss conference champion jumped by a second SEC school. Also, the SEC east can make sure the ACC doesn’t get a spot in the playoffs by beating them in the last week of the season and for the next couple years a team from the SEC west will be given the chance to exclude FSU or Clemson from the playoffs as well. This new 4 team playoff format doesn't change much for the ACC.

Boom! Couldn't agree more. BCS wasn't broken aside from the 2 team limitation. BCS formula for identifying the two best teams worked perfectly every year (including 2011). This new formula bombed in its first and only year so far.

Use the old formula to select four or six or eight teams and it would be better than at present, IMO.

I agree but college football changes at a snails pace. The people who run the college football are stuck in their ways. Every poll of fans, players, or coaches wanted an 8 team playoff format but they still did their own thing.

The final years of the BCS was broken when they went away from the pure computer rankings and let the pollsters influence it more.

I thought 2012 Bama was lower than OK state in the computer rankings. It helped Bama that year.
