2 things;
It is damn good that our football team is so profitable because we couldn't rely on the state or larger academic institution for help. The athletics has to give money back to the school and we still have to make large cut backs every year. Our state is as corrupt as it gets and the politicians would love to get their hands on that money if they can. Hell they are already fighting to see who can influence the coaching search the most. So yeah, LSU sports is not poor, we are just run by a bunch of morons.

Also where is Oklahoma State? I thought T Boone Pickens (is that his name?) gave them a massive donation worth hundreds of millions. And does the Oregon number include all the add ons from Phil Knight? He pretty much makes sure their facilities are better than everyone else by a mile. That has to be worth a couple hundred million.

You know those numbers are revenue numbers, not profit. That is to say, your spending has nothing to do with it.

Tennessee $126.6M
but yet bankrupt (last in conference in reserve funds, money left over after bills are paid in layman's terms

Thanks for all your sage advice. Then again, think rationally about all the bandwidth you and your homies could save for the world by leaving our extremely profitable and successful program alone.

Didn't you have to dial back your recent $400mm stadium expansion plans to $150mm because you didn't have the money? This post was edited on 10/18 at 9:09 pm

It was originally 300 million, but no the money is already there and it's being done in two phases. The first phase of filling in the south EZ was completed before the tOSU game so the stadium wasn't torn apart. The second phase of a new press box and north EZ renovation starts after the last home game this year and will be finished before the 2017 opener. it's actually going to exceed 300 million.

If hart is still there: That is what happens when you have a retard for an athletic director. Also, better take a look at his lifestyle. He has a history of using school funds for personal use like reroofing his house. I cannot believe anybody hires that idiot.

I saw this link on another post and thought it was worth its own topic. It appears to only be public schools, as I would expect Notre Dame and USC to be in the top 25.

Business Insider List

The list includes a breakdown on income from football, basketball, and women's basketball as well as donations and licensing fees.

25. UCLA $96.9M
24. Nebraska $102.2M
23. Washington $103.5M
22. Louisville $104.3M
21. Oregon $105.7M
20. Iowa $106M
19. Michigan St $108.7M
18. Minnesota $111.2M
17. South Carolina $113.2M

USC is in the top 25.

Based on that number, Arkansas probably handles this the same way A&M does. Athletic scholarships are given in-state tuition rates and the delta for OOS tuition is passed through as a "subsidy."

It doesn't matter how much money you have or make, that pass through exists. It's just accounting really.

Oh, ok. Interesting. Fuzzy D.C. math
