How is uga ranked so high? They have a first year/first time head coach and most likely a starting QB who was playing high school football in Washington last year.

They finished with a solid record and a good roster talent wise but I think a lot of it is premised on faith in Chubb returning as good as before. Eason is considered a fantastic talent although I hear what you're saying about the competition level in Washington but they managed 10 wins last season with a very mediocre QB. I also think Smart is very well respected among coaches and they're giving him the benefit of the doubt.

When is UGA ever ranked low enough? Always over ranked, always underperform.

Two teams ranking going to pass in the night in week 4.
One going up and one going down.

Agreed. VOLS should be top 5 afterwards and Florida will be with the others receiving votes imo

Given what beating Florida did for Michigan, I'll be disappointed if it's not top 3.

ironic isn't it that ewtee has Saban to thank for their '98 title. Saban's miracle in C-bus and FSU qb hurt...voila..a gifted NC.

Even if OSU got to the title game in 1998, they still had John Cooper on the sidelines which would have almost guaranteed a loss.

Probably the first team ranked pre-season #1 with a new QB, RB, and center.

There are many that think Michigan has the best DL in the entire country. Harbaugh is a proven coach as opposed to Butch who...isn't

Actually there are plenty of things wrong with that.

Be careful here, you never know what's in those over the counter eyebrow restorers.

They have uncertainty surrounding their head coach

Miles is a lock to win 9-10 games while going above the norm once in a while. The issue was whether that was good enough. The conflict was over LSU's expectations, not Miles' ability.

Beat UF 3 years in a row without a QB. That's got to count for something.

Your kick holder throws better TD passes than your QB.

I can't find anything for the Coaches poll so far but here's the AP.

1966: finished #3 despite being the only untied and undefeated team in the country.
1978: national champs.
2010: finished #10.
2013: finished #7.

Yep, it's very rare for a team to start and finish #1, but Alabama's results when starting #1 are actually quite good compared to most programs. Top 10 every time, with one national championship and arguably a deserved another.
