I looked up LSU's offensive numbers from 2011 and I'm surprised by how mediocre they were. It seemed like every time I watched them on offense, they were converting third downs and scoring TDs when they were in the red zone. They were a very efficient offensive team. Of course most of the games that I watched was when they were starting Jarrett Lee at QB. Maybe their offensive efficiency started to go down after Jordan Jefferson took over.

"efficient" is an excellent adjective to describe that offense. The receiving corps was stacked (Randle, Beckham, Landry, Boone, etc), but everything else was pretty good to maybe even average on offense. I would take this year's running game, OL, FB, TE's, and Harris over the rest of the units.

That 2011 defense and special teams was just unreal though. Wing couldn't not pin teams inside the 10 if he tried his best Jamie Keehn impression, and Tyrann Mathieu was insanely good in the return game. I know you he didn't do much 1/9/12, but he was an entire touchdown swing against everyone else (a lot of good teams at that)

LSU's 11 defense was the best at causing turnovers without a doubt.

2011 LSU defense was one of the best ever. NFL talent at all 3 levels and one of the greatest defensive players of all time in the secondary. Not to turn this into a Bama vs. LSU thread, but what they did in the 2011 NC game was remarkable.

Tyrann Mathieu
Eric Reid
Morris Claiborne
Ron Brooks
Tharold Simon
Kevin Minter
Michael Brockers
Bennie Logan
Barkevious Mingo
Sam Montgomery

All of the above were drafted in 5th round or higher. Also, the special teams edge would be insane in this matchup. Brad Wing punting with Brooks and Mathieu as gunners was ridiculous. Mathieu would also have 100+ return yards and a TD against this team.

That said, our 2015 offense is better at every position, with maybe WR being a push.

I think 2011 LSU beats all of the Bama championship teams except 2011 Bama in a best of three. I know they won the game in Tuscaloosa but I still have to give the edge to the Bama team by a small margin.

They would have eaten him up, but that's for another thread that is sure to come along in the next 3 weeks

Meh, he may not have rushed for 175 or 8 YPC, but if he got this OL and this offense, there is no reason to believe he couldn't get 120+ on 30 carries or so, easily. LSU ran for 148 yards in Tuscaloosa on 41 carries. Spencer Ware was pretty shittastic, but Michael Ford had 11 rushes for 72 yards in the game, and Fournette is considerably more talented than anyone in that backfield and would have a better OL with the 2015 squad.

I'm not saying LSU wins by any means, but Fournette would get his against 2011 Bama, and he'll get his on November 7th.

ETA: I say this as both a compliment to Fournette and a testament to how committed LSU is to the run game. Miles will live and die with the run game, which is fine by me, but he hasn't abandoned the run in the past, even in the face of middling YPC numbers at times. Just last year Miles ran it 32 times for 38 yards against Arkansas

No.

I never want to see Jordan Jefferson under center ever again.

Unless he's facing Bobby Petrino's defense.

I think something crazy like 33 players and 15 starters from that LSU team are on NFL rosters.

What would be Fournettes final stat line

I'd guess 22 carries, 115 yards. 2015 would stop running him after they fell behind by a couple of scores late in the 3rd or early 4th.

You're 100% wrong. 2009 Bama would have been a worse matchup for 2011 LSU than the 2011 team. The 2009 Bama team was every bit as good as 2011 LSU on special teams with Javy Arenas and Leigh Tiffin plus they were much better at forcing turnovers on defense.

I saw two weeks ago on tv that Iowa State has one win against a top 5 school in its entire history.

I couldn't find a bottle quick enough after that
