To me, there are four defenses that were clearly a tier above everyone in the last ten years.
2008 USC
2009 Alabama
2011 LSU
2011 Alabama
All of those teams were very consistent and just suffocated teams on defense. If you were down a TD to any of those games, it felt like the game was over or at least on the verge of being over.

We get it. You love some USC.
And you clearly
don't have any identity issues to contend with.

2011 LSU no worse the 3rd of last 20 years to me.
1992 Alabama was arguably the greatest of the modern era before the BCS

Eric Reid? Sam Montgomery? Honey Badger? Tharold Simon?

LSU's 2011 defense had to be the Denver Broncos of this past season to win games against one of the hardest schedules of all time. I get it, they didn't win a championship, but they were beyond great.

Call me biased but I'd have them at #2
I would put them 1b. 2011 Bama gave up fewer yards, but 2011 LSU, was better at creating turnovers. But, hey, I am a bit biased.

I just think it's strange out of that top 10 being objective, how can anyone argue otherwise...it's not fandom, it's CFB fandom. What bias have to do with objective facts/or identity issues...you can be fair and give credit where it's due besides your own teams.
USC vs. Florida might have been the best game of the BCS era. The facts are facts.

Guess you missed Honey Badgers interview last week where he stated he wanted to go to Tennessee because of Frank Wison.......

2008 USC defense played some great offenses.
fricking
The 2008 USC Trojans shut out three of their opponents
...held three more to a field goal
...two more to a touchdown
...two more to just 10 points...
...one of those held to a field goal was Ohio State;
...Oregon, which finished with the #3 scoring offense in 2008, was held to 10 points.
I don't understand why it's funny to quote history.

Guess you missed LSU hiring Chavis in 09 and Honey Badger signing in 2010.

Guess you missed Honey Badger being from NOLA. You have no clue bro. he was a 3* recruit that wasn't highly touted. Wilson made that happen.
Chavis goes home to Tenn and signs 1-2 3* Tenn kids a year, that's bout it.

Yeah. That secondary wasn't very good. There were some good players, but definitely not #2. LSU in 11 should have that spot.

I'm guessing this list was based on some goofy formula.
They have 1907 Michigan who was 5-1 and gave up 6 points but not 1901 Michigan who was 11-0 with 11 shutouts

2 greatest defenses in the past 10 years played twice in one year.

I opened just to see where '92 Bama ras ranked....
That D was sick...

Yeah Desert Swarm was good, but just because they had a cool nickname doesn't make them better than '92. Copeland, Curry up front and then an NFL def backfield. Ask K Mart or whatever they called him at Miami who hawked down and the ball stripped in the NC game what he thinks.
Oh and don't forget the Heisman who was humiliated, Gino Torreta.
Watching UA put 11 on the line at times and that defensive gameplan was a thing of beauty, even as a teenager.

It was a different era and all, but Colgate's 1932 defense deserves some props.
Hard to do better than a 0.00 points per game average.

Several of those aren't even the best defenses the school has had. Stupid list. Looks like they put a lot of stock in statistics. Those of us who have watched decades of college football would have a different list almost entirely.
And, they clearly have no idea which teams were good in which eras. 1980 FSU????? Are you freaking kidding me? They played 4 bowl teams including their bowl game (Lost), which scored 67 points against them. People always talk about 1980 FSU, but they were not some super great team. The thing they did is beat the vaunted Nebraska and Pitt teams, so everyone thinks they were really something.
