The only thing I remember about the 2015 Bama defense is they looked bad during the championship game. No way they should be #2.

66 Alabama defense was pretty good. Off the top of my head I think only 23 points allowed.

I checked. Gave up 44 points with 6 shutouts. Only one close game all season for that team. 11-10 over Tennessee.

I have them at #1, slightly edging out Bama 2011 defense.

I know "21-0"

But LSU's defense wasn't going up against LSU's offense, which was by far the weakest unit on the field.

Tennessee had a team that never gave up a point until the bowl game.

Not so sure about these lists.

The best defenses of the last ten years list is an absolute joke. 2015 Alabama and 2012 Florida were not even close to being as good as the 2011 LSU team defensively. 2009 Bama should be ranked much higher on the list. And no 2008 USC in the top 10? Or 2008 Florida for that matter?

I love LSU but put that aside any true fan knows those two defenses in 11' were the best.

1. 2011 LSU should be #2.
2. No 08 USC?

Was on YouTube earlier and came across the "game of the century" and watched the first quarter. Both of those defenses were straight nasty. Anybody have the number of draft picks off the starting defenses combined?

Uh, no 2008 USC?

That's an absurd analysis. Really absurd...they might not be #1 arguably but definitely top 3.

The 2008 USC defense only allowed 7.8 points per a game.

Alabama in 2011 allowed 8.2 points per game and Miami allowed 9.4 points per game.

The only reason people don't remember the 2008 USC defense is unlike the 2001 Miami defense and 2011 Alabama defense, USC never won the national championship. The BCS let other one loss teams play ahead of USC.

The funny thing is if the USC defense played hard in the second half of the Rose Bowl against Penn State the average points would be lower. Penn State scored 24 points but they scored 17 points in the fourth quarter after the game was over.

Also, unlike Alabama defense in 2011 who played against teams with bad offenses the 2008 USC defense played some great offenses.

I always wonder how much greater the 09 defense could have been had Hightower not got injured. Not that Reamer or Nico didn't do a great job replacing him, but having him and McClain plug up the middle was nasty.

2008 USC was one of the best teams ever to not win a natty. They killed Penn State in the Rose Bowl and beat Ohio State 35-3. Defense had Clay Mathews, Brian Kushing, Rey Maualuga, Taylor Mays, and some more.

They were insane.
