You must have missed the strip + run back for touchdown in Sugar Bowl.

Louisiana Tech gave them a good game that year. Bama won 13-0. Willie Roaf had his coming out party against that vaunted defensive line.

1961's D may have been the most dominant. And the '78-'79 teams had a ton of future NFL talent on them.

If you are talking which bama teams would beat which, my opinion is:

1. 2010
2. 2011
3. 1992
4. 2009

I know 2010 lost 3 games. But I think they were overconfident and lacked some motivation. Their losses were to a great Auburn team that no one in the country could beat, a VERY good LSU team, and a pissed off Spurrier.

2011 could easily be switched with 2010. However, 2011 only beat 1 team ranked in the top 20 at the end of the year and lost to the other one they played. Anyone good team can beat up on a weak schedule like that. Reminds me of 1983 Nebraska that played one top 20 team all year, blew out a bunch of weak teams, then lost the only other game against a top 20 team.

1992 Bama is next. Greatest defense in NCAA history IMO.

2009 number 4. Undefeated, yes. But they were a year ahead of schedule and 2010 and 2011 were better. Should have lost 3-4 games IMO. Refs won the LSU game, fluke mount fatass block won the UT game, a last minute drive with multiple 3rd down conversions to Julio who AU had no db that could cover won the AU game, and if Dareus does not spear McCoy, UT wins by double digits.

ETA: None of those teams from the 60's or 70's is staying on the field with a team from the modern era BTW.

I don't think you are taking into account the intangibles, which 2009 had more than any of that group including 1992.

On that note, 2010 lacked a ton of them, which you sort of addressed.

My personal list would be:

1. 2011
2. 2009
3. 1992
4. 2010
5. 2008
6. 2012

Some truth about the intangibles.

But that 2010 Bama team was incredibly talented. When motivated, they were going to beat arse against about anyone (except Cam).

2011 over 2010 is pretty reasonable. 2011 just played a relatively weak schedule, esp compared to 2010.

I really think either 2010 or 2011 handles 2009 by at least 10 points. Those two are at the top of the pile IMO.

Also, I have to put 2012 over 2008. 2008 played over their head most of the season. 2012 has pretty much played to their capabilities, no more, no less.
