Yeah, this has to be true, because if you count passing TDs, Florida has 2 with 6 (Tebow against USC, Burton against UK). No way there's only 1 other SEC player to do it. Has to be rush, rec, ret.

Didn't Donte Jackson return one, but it was called back? Maybe last year.

It's crazy we had Tebow, Cam, & Johnny all within a few years if each other. We might not see another guy like those for a decade or 2.

The reason Derrick Thomas' will never be broken is because it was before sacks were officially counted as an NCAA stat. Schools kept track themselves and some schools, like Bama didn't award half sacks. Basically if Thomas was one of 5 guys around a QB that went down, all 5 got awarded 1 sack each.

The record won't be broken because it's a farce.

Florida's kicker can hit a 60 yarder. Leg is legit as hell.

South Carolina has a kid with a big big leg as well. He's got some accuracy issues beyond 40 though.

Alexander Waznik is his name. He's hit from 67 in practice. Incredible leg. Check him out if you get a chance this season. His 50-55 yarders clear the tip top of the uprights.

I have no doubt he'll get a chance to try to break the 60 yard mark during the course of this season.

He did but because it was called back it doesn't count. Record is still intact...unfortunately.

There have been a few others but all have been called back due to laundry on the field.

Believe that is the case as well, because there are plenty of people if you include passing TDs.

Just doing a quick search it appears the record holders are Arizona State RB Kalen Ballage (7 rushing, 1 receiving) and Illinois RB Howard Griffith (8 rushing TDs).

I do. There's plenty of kickers these days that have the leg to hit from that far out. But there's a reason it's rarely attempted. Because the chances of hitting it in a game situation are slim. In practice there's no pressure, there's not a hundred thousand people watching you, and usually when you hear of these long FGs in practice the kicker is kicking off a tee which is easier than using a holder. And once you get to 60+ it's not worth risking the field position advantage you'd give the other team if you miss, which is probable, unless it's some end of the game situation to win.. which is rare.

Another thing you didn't mention is that the further back you go the lower your trajectory upon impact which makes it easier to block. There are probably thousands of 18-21 year old college kids that "have the leg" to connect from 60 but as you said doing it in game is much different than doing it in shorts in practice.

In 2015 Peyton Barber for Auburn had 9 rushing TD in two games. And he's the least talented starting Auburn RB since the 90s. So it could definitely be doable against a team with a weak run D like Arky

I'm not sure if this counts as a record but Tommy Hodson was first team All SEC QB four times. Might have been done before but I doubt if we see it again because in today's game a three time All SEC QB is very likely to declare for the draft.

748 rushing yards in a single game by Bama against VT
What happened here? That should not be possible.

63 rushes at 11.8 yards per carry is equally as impressive IMO

When Auburn set the SEC vs SEC record this past season of 543 rushing yards against Arkasad we ran 57 times for 9.5 ypc, and I thought that was beastly.

I'd say that record could technically be beatable though if you get a rushing team like Auburn has been under Gus and they get unstoppable like we were vs Arkansas, add in a few turnovers or bust a couple more long TD runs to give time for 3 or 4 more drives and that record is breakable.

Or a game like the 2014 Iron Bowl where both teams just score so fast so often that the offenses have the ball enough to do that. In that game we combined for 99 points and 1169 yards

But as crazy as that is, in 1989 Houston actually had over 1000 yards of total offense by themselves in a single game. I think that may be the most untouchable record ever

We get all of that and we get how trajectory works and geometry and inertia, etc. Waznik will get a chance when the game is not on the line. Also, with the rule change about defenders not being allowed to jump over the line - that helps. More importantly, in Waznik's case, he gets his kicks up very fast and they still have distance. His kicks are high archers from beyond 50. You'll just have to trust me and wait and see for yourself. Or, if you wanna see what all Gamecock fans already know - what a replay of our spring game and come back and see if your mind is not changed. His kicks are a sight to behold. They're super human almost. But don't take my word for it - watch it for yourself.

The most amazing thing is that he does it effortlessly. It's just smooth as silk and very quick. But the altitude he gets on his kicks are beyond description - so I understand why some who have yet to see him may find it hard to believe.

I'll put it this way. From beyond 40 they've made special plans to cable the Allstate Good Hands catch net up 15 feet higher because he kicks so many balls above the normal height and into the back of the end zone stands or off the In The Zone glass.

ETA: Here's mUSChamp talking, just minutes ago, after I posted above. At roughly the 6:00 min mark he talks about Alex Waznik kicking a FG today in the scrimmage. You know, from experience, that mUSChamp is not prone to hyperbole. https://youtu.be/0CqIN_tzZVk

Speaking of non-SEC crazy records, Timmy Chang threw for over 17,000 yards for Hawaii. That's frickin nuts.

ETA- Just looked it up. It was against Baylor in 2012, and Johnny Manziel won the Heisman. Geno Smith didn't get a single vote.

That would be the year that Geno Smith was running away with the Heisman when WVU was putting up video game numbers on their way to a 5-0 start. They folded like a cheap suit and finished 6-6. That's why Smith didn't get any Heisman love.
