Even more amusing is that he thinks 106k is what folks would claim.

Forget that part for a minute. He was claiming this...

quote:

Prior capacity was 92,542. This expansion added "60 "Tiger Den" suites, 3,000 club seats and 1,500 general public seats."

So somewhere around 5,500-6,000 seats were added. Which would put Tiger stadium at around 98,000 seats.

...which meant that if...

quote:

“The stadium capacity takes into account ancillary groups, such as media, game management and concessions staff.”

...was taken into consideration, Tiger Stadium would have 4,321 people among that "media, game management and concessions staff." making up the difference between 98,000 and 102,321.

It's just amazing to me that he or anyone else could believe for even a minute that there would be close to 4,000+ press and support staff in a college stadium. Any stadium.

4,000 people is small army.

Geez. If they ever expand the other endzone, it'll be the largest stadium the US.

If they ever do expand the north end zone, Alleva is on record as saying Tiger Stadium would lose some of the current capacity by adding in more chair back seats.

Something Tiger Stadium already has more of than any other SEC stadium.

Also, don't forget that Tiger Stadium and Kyle Field are the two biggest stadiums in the SEC with significant amounts of Standing Room Only (SRO) space. Mizzou, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Mississippi State all have a great deal of SRO as well.

Thus, the change from "seating capacity" to "stadium capacity" makes even more sense when seen in that light.

^The days of seating capacity for seating capacity's sake are over, imo. Now, ADs are more worried about how to fill the stadiums, how to get students to attend, how to capture younger audiences, how to balance the wants and needs of younger less moneyed crowd they need for the future with the desires of the older wealthier crowd that currently buys a lot of tickets with hefty donations tacked on, and the overall stadium experience. They know that for fans that have grown up attending - they have us but they also know that they have to get their hooks into students and younger people in order to keep things going. Otherwise, they'll lose that audience to television.

It's an interesting conundrum they're in because it's a big generational change with the Boomers aging and ADs trying to figure out how to get their kids and grandkids to replace them despite the fact that those two groups have less money to spend. The SEC has avoided a lot of the issues thus far but we won't be immune to it forever.

I don't know about the rest of the SEC, but LSU probably has 15,000 people on campus tailgating and watching on flat screen tv outside the stadium who never enter the gates of Tiger Stadium. Seems like they are happier out there than inside the stadium itself.

They have already been outdone. There is absolutely nothing they can do now to regain stature other than shutting down the LHN and getting down on their knees to beg to join the SEC.

I hope Texas never comes but they would not beg. Sadly the SEC would roll out the red carpet for them whenever they want to join. Personally, I want all of Texas out of the SEC. 12 teams was the perfect number and now we ruined it.

There's really not enough room in the north endzone. There's a road right next to the stadium where the band and team march in.

So you're telling me Ole Miss guys have big d*cks?! I always just thought they were big d*cks. And yes, I know you're not an Ole Miss fan, but I just wanted to take an unnecessary shot at Ole Miss. The joke is on me though because they apparently have big d*cks and mine is shrinking with each expansion.

With respect, that has been answered before. I know there are other LSU posters on this site who have actually seen plans for a possible north end zone expansion. Nevermind that Alleva thinks we have no need to expand, there are a lot of boosters who look at Tiger Stadium and say "We're not done."

The way the north end zone would be expanded would be similar to how Tennessee built their new facade onto Neyland Stadium...

...the expansion would be built as close to North Stadium Drive as possible from both the east and west side. Then the center would connect the sides in a straight line, go up two or three stories, then cantilever out to finish the bowl effect.

It would actually give more fans a chance to see the March Down Victory Hill...

...and I've long thought that both the team and the band deserve a grander entrance into Tiger Stadium.

So win win win.

I always thought that LSU is missing a beat by not putting in a big HD screen in Bernie Moore with a video feed from inside Tiger Stadium and charging a nominal charge for fans to sit in there and tailgate while watching the game from the stands or the grassy area south of the track.

It might be that SEC regulations forbid that kind of thing though.

Well said, and I agree completely. Let me show you something no one's talking about yet in regards to the SEZ expansion...

...see that area by the windows? It's marked "Future" on the SEZ diagram...

...that area is where the first gameday condos to be built into Tiger Stadium will go.

You heard it here first.

If we add a north endzone expansion, it would strictly be all club seating, which would be great.

that way, LSU could maintain low ticket prices in the lower bowl, thereby encouraging fans to attend.

it'll also be nice when LSU fixes the traffic issue, as I am pretty positive every LSU season ticket holder loves a good 20 minute rant on traffic

That's true at SCAR as well, especially for September night games and October/November day games.

Also, Williams-Brice has room for 5,000 standing room only.

SCAR is not expanding anytime soon. We've got plenty of room to expand the north endzone but to do so we will have to tear-down the Floyd Building and as long as Dr. Floyd is on our Board of Directors he'll block that move and probably rightfully so.

Once the new coaches offices and Hall of Fame is completed next to W-B, maybe around 2020 or so, we'll revisit stadium expansion.

These new TV deals and big screen TVs will eventually lead to a plateauing effect where attendance is concerned. We've reached a period where dimenishing returns are going to kick-in nationwide.

What makes it impressive is that we still have an entire end zone and a nice section on both sides to fill in if we wanted to add more down the road. That's a big number to have with that much room left to expand.

Oooh that will be sweet. The area under Neyland used to be used for many functions including office space for various depts but they've recently turned it into various football related space/clubs and the like. But I don't think we have any gameday condos.
