The shirts are ready.

*This is a joke. I'm not trying to sell tee shirts, but if Bilge Battle was fired, I wouldn't cry.

I'm hardly going to blame Battle for the problems the football team has had of late. If he loses Marshall, however, he can go to hell and he can die.

The game will be broadcast later that afternoon on the SEC Network.

Eh you can blame Battle but we had both him and Kiffin as coaches. Battle just wasn't a very good coach but he was a good guy. The shite Bama is going through right now is the same shite we saw with Kiffin. There's something about him -- even those times when he's on his best behavior -- trouble just follows him.

ETA: And no I'm not trolling in the least. I honestly don't understand why it happens.

There's more going on with Battle than the coaching search. He's doing a pretty good job of pissing off the non-athletics side of campus, mainly because of his fetish for the logo licensing, even for other departments in at the university.

He's a nice guy, but, to be honest, I don't know why he's been in the position so long. Everyone expected him to be a placeholder. Maybe they were waiting on Ozzie and the whole Ray Rice thing screwed up the timing, who knows? (That's mere conjecture, btw.)

If he strikes out in Wichita and doesn't have a solid back-up plan (Rick Petino's son is not a solid back-up plan), and makes the university look like a possum's pecker, then I think his tenure will be over very quickly.

The licensing thing doesn't surprise me but Battle is pretty damned brilliant at that. That said, I think that if he keeps the athletic side happy all will be well. Who knows how long he'll last but he does have both the athletic experience as well as the business acumen and there's no doubt he knows Bama football. That combo of skills is hard to find.

I'm sure if he the powers that be find him to be sucky they'll get rid of him. But it sounds like from what you've said (and you can correct me here) it's more a lot of little things that have rubbed some wrong outside of the AD and less anything major.

Regardless, as an outside observer I think you're in a far better position than it seems right now. Just a shitty week and that happens to everyone.

i'm here to melt about our shitty fans... my former team just finished top 10 at ncaa's saturday and all you fricktards want to discuss is some bulbous, blob of a human who can't control his caloric intake or urges to strike women. seriously it takes a god damn house collapsing on you to get any acknowledgement in my sport at bama.

Yes. Probably a comparison problem, too. Saban's spent a lot of time and effort healing the rift between academics and athletics. Mal Moore helped with that, too: athletics paid to renovate Foster Auditorium and build the Malone-Hood Plaza; athletics donated $1 million to the tornado relief fund for students and employees that they set up after the April tornadoes (they paid my insurance deductible!); and they've expanded other student services - like building career center satellite offices in Bryant Hall and expanding dining services on the east side of campus. Battle's not that kind of guy. In fact, I think he's tone deaf to the bigger picture.

He looked like a limp fish last year when the whole Saban-to-Texas thing was going down; and most people thought he was a too skittish when he didn't pull the trigger on Grant last year; and in the meantime he went after the rest of campus, telling them they couldn't use the script A for anything without athletics' permission (unless it's inside the box). The whole university had to redesign websites, the car tags had to be changed, the club teams were told they couldn't have the A on the their uniforms, letterheads had to be redone. My department had to pay out the arse for new logo setups with the apparel company for the professional staff's team wear. It was a massive expense in terms of manpower and new purchases that was completely unnecessary, and all so that he could squeeze a few more pennies out of the process.

He's no Dave Hart, though, thankfully. If I didn't enjoy beating Tenn so much, I'd actually send prayers for that situation.

Congrats on the top 10 finish in swimming.

As for Battle getting run out of town, he's pretty much leaving at the end of the calender year anyway. Dude has a net worth in the high 8 figures and has vacation homes I'm sure him and his wife want to start visiting regularly again.
