Sounds like Woods is in Augusta today for a practice round.

There goes normal pre-Masters golf coverage. Prepare for a fricking circus.....

If they cared about nickel and diming people with souvenirs, then they'd just sell merchandise through their website like other golf tournaments do....increasing sales a few hundredfold in the process.

I would bet that souvenir and concession sales are at about the same priority level for them as providing clean rest-rooms and making sure there is someone there to pick up a piece of trash 2 seconds after it falls is.

It's all just part of making sure their guests have the experience that they want them to.Their money comes from elsewhere.

I believe with the independent contract they have with TV/advertising....each single year pays for the equivalent of 10 years of cost to run it. Pretty awesome that they don't get more Greedy. Just unbelievable for an organization this day in age to care more about people, experience, and tradition then money. Respect!

Always makes me think of that story about Stephens. Who knows if it's true or not but given the amount of money floating around that place it wouldn't surprise me a bit.

LINK

quote:

According to club lore Stephens was once paired in a foursome with a guest of another member who mocked Stephens for suggesting they play a $2 Nassau. ''I normally play a $100 Nassau,'' said the guest.

After the round, when the foursome sat down to a gin game for Stephens's customary stakes of a penny a point, the guest was even more disdainful.

Finally annoyed, Stephens calmly asked the man his net worth.

''Twelve and a half million,'' the guest said.

"'Fine,'' Stephens is reputed to have countered. ''I'll match that, and we'll cut the cards for it.''

When the guest was rendered speechless, Stephens's soft voice filled the room. ''Penny a point, then,'' he said.

you're a true smart arse, eh?

cudos to you.

and i wasn't implying that's how they make their money, but it does more than cover their costs for concessions.

oh...PSA. if you're coming to the tourney and crave the pimento cheese before they pulled the original formula... check out Wife Saver while you're here. it's the version the Tournament served before they decided to go in-house for all their concessions.

I don't find pricing in the clubhouse to be outrageous all things considered. If you buy a shirt from the Performance or Tech line it's 60-75 $. That's on par for what you will find at decent local golf courses. The shirts are nice they don't fade and last forever.

You can splurge and buy something from the Magnolia Lane or Bobby Jones collection for over $100 but that's your choice.

6 is amazing. That is even more impressive when you consider that there are only 44 Americans in the field.

Pick any golfer in the field that is a US citizen and there's about a 15% chance he went to UGA.

That's pretty freaking incredible. Even more impressive considering Harris was only the 2nd guy on the outside looking in. I'm not sure we'll get 6 again, but I think we'll have at least 5 players in there pretty consistently with Bubba, Chris, Russell, Harris, and Brendon.

It's a shame that he probably won't get an invitation. He's actually still listed on most of the Vegas sites and has better odds to win than about two-thirds of the field.

After Bubba, who is in the top three best odds to win, and without Harris, the next best odds for a UGA player is Henley at 160/1.

And I guess this is the first Masters for Compton, Harman, and Todd whose odds are all at the bottom........Although the tournament has been won three times in the past by first-time participants, so who knows.

Man, Compton winning a green jacket in his first attempt would be one of the greatest stories ever.
